Some twitter chatter about Dani Koljanin, grad transfer. Supposedly the staff has contacted him, but it looks like he has already verbaled to AR-Little Rock.

Sounds like the perfect guy for our system - sign him up!

Lol. In any case, we obviously have enough to sell him on. Also I'm excited to see what next years team will bring defensively. While we might be small and youthful, we should give other teams headaches on the defensive end.

So, he sparingly played at L'ville for 3 years, then redshirted at Minny, so he could transfer?

I used him as an example of 7 footer not necessarily adding value, but at this point, I'd take him just for bodies in practice and maybe 5 minutes of playing time. I 'm not too sure that's worth the perception of accepting another team's trash though.

FWIW Derek Piper on 247 says Zdor will be an Illini. Must have heard something yesterday to make him feel it would happen.

Hope it's true. I'm pretty sure Zdor is open here for playing time and we need the warm bodies. He's higher ranked coming in than Ebo was and Giorgi is and has a better offer list. Looks like Piper already CB'd for him to us on 247, also.

24/7 has him as ranked 391, with Giorgi at 364. Ebo was in the 500s for 2017.

Looks to be on par with Giorgi, at least rankings wise.

Sign him up!

Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late Zdor that is open. :illinois:

Also, I wonder how much experience Fletch has working on Zdor frames?

Simple.....+1

I would be fine if he stayed too but only as back up. We need a 5 that must be guarded outside of a few feet and can make free throws, pass, handle the ball more than a bounce o two, and be closely guarded from 15 feet or more. If we cant improve from his limited skill set at thev5 we are in trouble

I like Zdor's HS stats better, as well as the fact he brings a decent looking outside shot from the clips I saw. Showed a nice quick spin move in one vid, too. Sign me (and him) up. At this point I don't think were going to do better.

Stats are misleading. Gio played for a very good program with several D1 athletes. I like the eye test more that stats. Gio played against very good teams.

Better Shooter, less athletic, better passing Randle version...see 2:13 mark...again about 2:30

:chief:

D’antoni and Underwood want similar skills sets out of their players based on what I’ve heard them describe in clinics. D’antoni especially puts a premium on shooting which I’m sure surprises nobody. Personality wise though, I don’t think it gets more opposite.

Pretty mobile for a big. He needs to forget about the chin-ups, though.

The key to Zdor’s playing time hinges on his willingness to play lockdown defense and working on his handle.

I hope that's the key to his playing time. Unfortunately, the key to his playing time will likely be how many times our other two bigs pick up two fouls in the first half.

In 2005, his freshman year, Shaun Pruitt took 6 minutes to collect a foul.

Augie took 7 his freshman year.

Leonard 6

Egwu 5

Black 6

So all these highly rated guys were doing this, what will lesser recruits do as freshmen? And these are averages. You can bet that they had games that were significantly worse.

You just made somebody’s day.

Thank you for the stat; it scares the ever-loving hell out of me. The idea that two freshmen are going to be able to split 35:00ish a game at the 5, with 5:00ish going to Kipper when we go small, is crazy. Unless they have absolutely remarkable body control, we are going to have a lot of games where one of them gets into foul trouble real quick and our options become really ugly.

This is a huge issue few have highlighted in the wake of Ebo’s departure. Going to be really tough to run effective scrimmages with literally only 2 big bodies on hand.

Ultimately this along with BUs ability to keep recruits and thus give them time to develop and learn the system are key to his success here. Without this I can't see how this will translate into wins.

Either he gets an experienced big who can at least play some D or we will lose. I'm not getting paid to make the decision but there will be a lot of pitchforks if we get killed inside again and have another sub .500 season. He'll either be a genius, lucky, or get killed. Either way, he'll make his own bed.

Agree totally. Either we get developing bigs who stay 4 years or get more polished bigs. Losing Ebo hurts, sends wrong message to recruits. We are thin and you can count on injuries to make us thinner on the front court.
