That's what I'm saying, didn't someone post a link or comment saying that there were NCAA exceptions to get additional OV's some time back? I mean, they may have been completely wrong. I thought they even gave an example of that happening.... :noidea:

It was a situation where a new staff had come in and the old staff had used them all.

Adding more for transfers out would be to reward Creaning, which is the last thing the NCAA wants.

Does anyone know what the university includes for the athlete and his family in an official visit as opposed to an unofficial visit...I am assuming it's paying for travel expenses...but is it more than that??.....How does the process work???

Well I guess no one here knows the answer to this question....maybe someone on HQ will know

If doesn't sound promising for Higgs at this point.

Who will be the next prospect?

I recall when ILL missed on Trice, some said that we did not want him because we would get someone better. Now I would take Trice without thinking twice.

Yes, that would be nice.

Remember a few months ago when people raised concern with our rapidly diminishing stockpile of official visits, and so many people responded with stuff like "the staff can count" or "it's silly to be concerned about this"?

Well, here we are.

So you're suggesting that the staff should have tried to recruit the players they valued more (and ultimately lost out on) without using official visits? I'm sure that would have gone over well.

Along with travel like you said. Paying for all meals, activities during the trip, clothing and gear, etc

Or that the staff should have been more aware of the realistic chances to land some of those guys before hosting them on officials, is what I'm guessing folks would say.

But I have no problem with the staff going all out to try and get this done. They are in a no-win situation...had they not gone all out, folks would have bashed them for that too, right?!? And one of the fathers would have surely said, "we are considering Illinois, but they never invited us for an official visit."

In any case, yes, we need size - I get it - but the teeth gnashing over not having an official visit for a last minute kid ranked 350+ is a bit much. This thing is gonna take time to build.

Austin Trice was literally on a T for CBU.:thumb:

Adam Miller does not make the final roster of the U17 USA Men's BB World Cup team. Whitney had been cut earlier in the week.

New ESPN rankings out and Whitney is @ #14, 247 (not compsite) has him at #15 and recent Rivals @ #32. Burger boy territory. Bigger recruit than Ayo??
I wonder if either Irvin is with him??

Since it’s an unofficial doesn’t that mean there are different rules about working out with the team/coaches? As in, it’s allowable?

I have had some time today, so I've done some research on Official vs Unofficial visits.....Student athletes may take unofficial visits at any time and as many as they want(from what I've read some of the top recruits will take 15-20 unofficial visits)...any cost of the visit can not be paid by the university...however the university can give the athlete up to 3 tickets to an athletic event....there aren't any limitations on an unofficial visit...they can practice or workout with the team...they can stay as long as they want.....with an Official visit, the university pays for the cost of the visit and can give up to 3 tickets to an athletic event...the visit can only last 48 hours and the athlete can not take an official until the opening day of school his or her senior year.....and only 5 official visits are allowed.....according to one of the articles I read, some athletes and parents rack up to $15,000-$20,000 in taking unofficial visits.

Nick Irvin told Piper that Kahlil loves playing with Ayo and he is visiting to see his old Pal. Huge get. Could put the Illini in top of Big with this years class.:thumb: 5 Star Ayo, 5 Star Whitney.:shield:

This year's class? Isn't Whitney a 2019?

I'm pretty sure he meant, "In addition to" this year's class. I still say we'd need another really good big (would love a Top 100 big man for '19), even with Samba and Giorgi being sophs by then, to make it an ideal class.

If we are going for ideal let's ask for at least 2 bigs
