Higgs is what OA has been up to, y’all.

Not what we expected when we hired Antigua. At some point he needs to earn his keep and get us the elite/PlanA type player. Paid an awful lot of money for him to grapple down in the plan D category.

Yes, it's totally realistic for a single assistant coach to just roll into a program that is on the ropes and suddenly start reeling in 5-star talent at a position that is probably the rarest in college basketball.

So he's only getting paid to recruit and not to develop the bigs?

(cough) Leron Black (cough)

Recruiting is at least 50% of the game, and more for someone like Antigua. I cant imagine he will be here too long unless he lands bigger fish

They've only been recruiting for the Illini for a little over a year, right? I think we have better recruiting days ahead for sure.

Leron always had the offensive ability. I'll give this staff some credit, but they didn't turn him from Jack Ingram to James Augustine.

He might not have had such a great season if Groce's crew was still here, but he still would've been the most talented player on last years roster offensively.

Having watched Black play in high school and throughout his Illini career, I have to strongly disagree that he always had offensive ability. He could not hit the broad side of a barn until his junior season and really amazed me with his dependability last year. I had not expected him to score so consistently night after night as he had never displayed that before....and I certainly wanted to see it. His improvement, especially last year, in his offensive contribution was a huge plus, and likely would have been even more efficient had Tilmon been his running mate. I am giving Antigua and Underwood credit for his breakout, but they should have convinced him to stay another year.

This. The acceptance of poor performance, of the last decade plus, from Illini Nation is astounding...….. to say the least.

If he makes Kane and Giorgi into serviceable play at the 5 he's worth every penny.

But we do need improvement from the staff, no question.

What acceptance? A segment of our fan base has been mighty quick to turn on Weber, Groce and now Underwood when things aren't rosy ... I'd say we are not in the "more patient half" of fan bases in college basketball. We demand quite a bit (not that I don't think we should ... we should).

Bring back Ford, at least we could get that Canadian pipeline pumping again.

4-star @TheMacIrvinFire wing Terrence Shannon Jr. (@Tshan35) tells me he just arrived on the #Illini campus for his unofficial visit. Huge stock-riser this spring. Teammate of 5-star Kahlil Whitney, who visited last week. https://247sports.com/Player/Terrence-Shannon-46054973

Anyone who is more knowledgeable in this than I am, please comment...

How do Shannon's game and Liddell's game compare? I see that EJ's about an inch taller and about 30 lbs heavier, so I'm assuming he plays bigger (he's also listed as a PF). Anyone have any more insight? I haven't watched any Shannon tape.

Shannon has literally blown up with the MIF this Summer. He graduated Lincoln Park HS in March and had zero D1 offers. He is going to 5th year prep school in VT. Has also grown over an inch this Summer and is now 6'7". Ex football player and is extremely rugged. Defense is one of his specialties. Too lazy to look up offer list, but now many HM's on it.
4 CB's and all to UI.

Guys, we all know Whitney is a 5* player but getting in on Shannon early is HUGE for us, not to mention having Ayo on board and our blossoming relationship with MIF. I like how this is playing out....

If he graduated in March and we have space what is stopping us from taking him right now? Is he prep schooling for academic reasons?

Say what you want about the Irvins but these seem to be more than just courtesy visits. If there was some alleged deal made with them last fall I'd say they've lived up to it. It's up to the staff now to close the deal.

We aren't even in the top 25% in patience, let alone the top 50%.

This is for TC, or anybody who might have some info.. He looks have nice size and athleticism. But what makes him a top 100 player in the nation? Honestly asking because it’s hard to tell from the 1 highlight video.
