Ok, you know 101 is entry level class right? Blue Blood Recruiting..... 101. To be clear, I meant that we are entry level recruiting Blue Blood level talent.

Also, after Ayo, Kofi, and Curbelo...we are very clearly not "Wannabe Recruiting".
Blueblood 101 assumes you're in the class - we're not. But that's fine, your point is going after typical Blue Blood talent.

If we are indeed as you say at the 101 level, then you should expect a vast array of responses to going after this type of recruit - higher risk/reward to us schools in 101.

The 'relax' statement should perhaps be saved moreso for when we are in Blueblood 301 or 401. Which of course we can matriculate to quite quickly if we follow the leader$ approach.

I think this makes the Illinois program look good whether Miller stays or goes later. I mean, it's as if Miller's commit was front page news. Brings the spotlight on the overall Illinois program, gives Illinois a top twenty recruiting class (for now at least), gets people talking about a resurgent Illinois program, etc. If Miller changes his mind, I think that would be the equivalent of page three news or even on the same page as the classifieds (I know these terms are probably foreign to you youngsters out there). It won't have such an impact as last night's announcement. It won't put the Illinois program in a bad light. Miller will either give a reason which will probably be logical and thus respected and most people will see that it makes sense or he won't give a reason which would make him look bad rather than Illinois. Of course, it won't be good short term as Illinois will be missing out on a fantastic guard and will mean Illinois needs to find a good replacement.

Did Tillman signing an LOI get him to Illinois? It is only a piece of paper
There are few situation where an LOI is not rock solid. One of those situations is when the coach you committed to is fired.

Underwood isn't going anywhere.

for the program to ascend we really need Ayo to have a good season and lead us to the tournament, then get drafted. while it would be nice to have Ayo back as a junior, that would mean that we had a subpar season and/or he did not progress as expected. Top recruits want situations that set them up for the NBA, and if we can’t show the ability to do that with a top recruit who was generating buzz after his freshman season, it will really hamper us going forward
This notion that our success is tied to Ayo making the NBA next year has been repeated enough that it is fast becoming an "IL" myth. There are many paths & I would put forth the second half making the tournament is far more important than Ayo making the NBA

Are we excited about the Miller commitment or not? I can't tell.

Excited but confused what excitement looks like. So, Illinois.

I agree that this is something we need to acclimate to if we keep getting 4* recruits. They look at this as a business (as they should) and we can't be offended if they wait to make the best decision for them. Right now, Miller very publicly declared that we're it for him. That's a win and we should take it at face value.

And if we ever get to the point where stud recruits are doing this to us routinely and some don't sign in the spring, so be it. That means we have talent ahead of them and talent coming in after. Amazing what that'll do to ease the pain of missing out on someone.

I mean, it's crystal clear to everyone I think that he didn't sign the LOI so that he could change his mind at some point in the spring. The whole point of not signing it is to keep that option open, so yes, it does seem like a possibility?

So when the girl tells you it's a million to one that she'd go out with you, you do the Jim Carey thing and say, "All right, there's a chance!"? I never said it was impossible, just that it was exceedingly unlikely.

Only it doesn't. If a school keeps recruiting, the "committed" player gets offended, feels disrespected and then decommits.

So a star player would get offended by a school recruiting players as a back-up plan in case he left? Really? Can you name a situation where that happened, cause I can't think of that situation happening?

Not unless he wanted to sit a year.
This. An LOI is pretty much rock solid. If Illinois hadn't fired Groce, it would be unlikely Tilmon would have had the opportunity to sit out. Illinois did the right thing letting him out of his LOI, but that situation will not happen with any signees this year as Underwood is unlikely to be let go.

This is still on topic. The fact is, Miller committed but didn't sign anything. There's nothing else to say on the LOI debate other than to say that once the LOI is signed, the ability of a student to decommit becomes severely hindered.

I'm glad Illinois is getting these commitments, but I'm still not 100% comfortable with this whole situation until Miller signs on the dotted line.
