Sam Ayomide to announce top 6 on this Sunday.

Do you think Illinois' offer is committable at this point? I would think our staff is still waiting on Mac but he's looking like a Spring commit. We already have Giorgi, Hamlin, and Lieb (assuming Kofi's out after this season) so it seems like taking Sam would only make sense if we didn't land Mac. But I'm not sure we have the luxury to wait on Mac if it means we strike out on Top 138 level talent in Sam... I just wonder if we take Sam what that dose to our chances with Mac.

Reasonably, we have what, 4 open schollies? Trent, Damonte, Ayo and Kofi.

Oy. You should know better than to start a discussion on recruiting with words that involve reason :p

Good time for a fresh thread, though. Be interesting to hear who the staff is focusing on now.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if the players/handlers were to compare the fandom of each school. The 🔶🔷 would have Nesbitt committing today! They have a whole 2 pages under the Nesbitt thread and they really could care less. Most of the thread was about Styx and the song Crystal Ball.

They do however feel they are getting Sam Ayomide, as well. Almost as many posts about him coming to Memphis as their is Nesbitt.

His commitment video has been posted, shockingly...Memphis

If any of the suggestions made here about Memphis are true, you have to think they will get caught at some point...they ain’t Kentucky. I know they got away with one already, but that just may put them in the crosshairs.

My 2 cents.

What an absolute joke. Maybe I’m wearing orange tinted glasses here, but seriously? Let’s just take a second and really look at this. Penny Hardaway was a great NBA player, don’t get me wrong. But what the hell has the guy done that’s bringing in these guys? Memphis!? I posted yesterday about Wiseman going there and then becoming ineligible and there’s a reason. This recruitment absolutely reeks. That Memphis program has reeked since Calipari was there. You’re telling me a guy who has never coached anything but a high school team just walks into a mid tier D1 school and starts raking in talent? Something Tubby Smith couldn’t do a year earlier!? Ya know....Tubby Smith. A National Championship winning coach. What the hell changed for Memphis when they hired Penny!? Same facilities. Same arena. Same location. Why play for Tubby Smith when you can play for the next Coach K Anfernee Hardaway. 🤣 Crazy how Penny had just helped Wiseman and his family out a year or two prior to getting hired. Not saying Penny had secret motives behind it, but it’s crazy how of all people in the world he helped out, it just happened to be the #1 recruit in the whole country. I’m sure Memphis had no idea about that (sarcasm). And don’t tell me every program plays this game. I’m so sick of that excuse. I think Penny has taken a page out of his old coach from Blue Chips’ playbook. Give me a freaking break.

I dont know what that number is but Memphi$, $LU and DePaul are driving it higher all the time
I am fairly ignorant on recruiting specifics, but how can we not out-spend those programs? Or are we 'too clean' to stoop to their level?

I know people disagree with me, but I just don’t think we play that game. I could be completely wrong, but I feel like we are always on the wrong side of these “recruitments”.

If I didn't know any better I would think you were suggesting this as a knock on their fan base.

It's not hard to understand the draw to Memphis for a Top 75 prospect with dreams of playing in the NBA. In his first 2 recruiting classes, Penny looks to be geared up to send a whopping 8 kids to the NBA. Wiseman and Achiuwa are already headed there. DJ, Lester, Moussa, and transfers Nolly, and DeAndre are probably there next year or the year after. Boogie has a shot at making it in 2022. Only Dandridge (#106) and Baugh (#115) are looking like they'll miss the NBA but they're still getting 317 and 641 minutes so they're still having a good time playing college ball alongside future NBA prospects. I'm willing to bet that both Minott and Nesbitt's names get thrown around in Mock Drafts as NBA prospects in the next 2 years. And that will just keep the train rolling. Penny even has an NBA stadium to sell to his recruits. Everything about playing in Memphis centers around wanting to play in the NBA.

Memphis has Redshirt Juniors Lance Thomas and Isaiah Stokes, both of whom could grad transfer after this season and the coaches son can give up his scholarship to make room for 3 new faces so only 1 guy needs to leave for the NBA after this season and it seem pretty clear that at least 1 will.
