Oh c'mon, so you think if the original report was correct, Nolley would just confirm it and not deny it?

This is where the trust in an Internet "source" comes into play. If the source called Nolley and asked and got a response like " holy crap how did you hear that? Umm I mean no that rumor is false . . . " then we should trust him that there are some legs to the rumor.

Otoh, if the recruit laughs and says nope I'm wide open. Heck I don't even talk to people in "______" you are relying on the source to read between the lines.

No idea how Nolley responded, but I guess it makes recruiting fluid :D

I don't see Nolley at VT, I don't see the buzz about VT or Buzz Williams. No one is a guru when it comes to these recruits, they seem to keep the information tight. Likely not committed to a school just yet.

VT is definitely a football school. But Buzz has them going in the right direction, and he's a pretty good recruiter. Not the easiest school to recruit to -- overshadowed by a bunch of other schools in the region, and football is king. But I wouldn't count Buzz out.

What we know:
1. Cash35 probably had some good inside info about Nolley coming to Illinois.
2. Meyer probably has some good inside info about Nolley going to VT.
3. Nolley shot down the Curie hearsay as not coming from him, but he did not contradict it.

If I was forced to bet, I'd have to give a slight edge to Meyer. I don't like it, but 2 CBs to VT this week suggests something is going on behind the scenes.

All part of the negotiations. That probably explains the mysterious ATL stop on the way to Castleton visit on Monday.

If there are whispers in Chicago that Nolley is staying in the south, Coach Chin is well aware & the staff has done and is doing everything possible. They are only whispers at this time.

VT will get their chance to impress Nolley next weekend. I certainly don't believe he's a Va Tech lean at this point, before his OV

Well, we're in his final four, at least. For some reason, I can't read the name "Landers Nolley" without hearing it in Homer Simpson's voice.

VT will never jump duke, unc, Louisville and they've got work to do to be as good as Syracuse, Virginia, Notre dame, and fsu.

Also you've got wake and gt on the rise. So VT is a football school, with no history of basketball success and a coach that could easily leave for a better gig.

Illinois on the other had has a much easier path to the top of the conference, is a basketball school, and has a great history of success.

Buzz is a strong recruiter, but this is a recruitment Underwood needs to be able to win. I really think the VT crystal balls are simply people saying he moved up his announcement to be shortly after his VT visit, he already had an ov and in home with Illinois and didn't commit, so it must be VT.

Cash has always had good info. Cash might have some update or new info but now we don't get it because he got run off.

I just realized that following recruiting is a perfect illustration of Schroedinger's Cat.

Until a recruit actually signs a LOI, he is both coming to U of I and going somewhere else.

LOL, maybe also proves Heisenberg's uncertainty principle - the more precisely you observe current status of a recruit the less precisely you can observe the momentum in his recruiting.

It does not contradict one another. An analyst can guess based on OV coming up (per your original post) so he can change that pick if commitment does not happen (or scheduled right after). Meyer does not do that, he has no record of frequently changing picks before visits or based on visits coming up. When Meyer makes a CB pick it means that at a minimum has information pointing in that direction (at that time). He does not read tea leaves, he is one of the best in the business. If he changes his pick to Illinois, it would mean that he has some new solid information to justify it. The dynamics of a recruitment can certainly change, as does the accompanying information on those dynamics.

Meyer is not a favorite among Illini fans, because he has often made picks contrary to popular recruiting desires or expectations on Illini message boards. But reality is that most of those associated recruiting decisions did not end up going our way.

CB is a marketing tool, so many analysts will cast their picks. But a few of them carry more value. Meyer is definitely one of them.
Refresh my memory, didn't Meyer have a kid named Smith going to Sparty then day before his commit switch? Think a picture of a cake caused that switch.;):thumb:

Meyer just moved his cb pick Horton-Tucker to Michigan because THT announced an ov to Michigan.

That guy doesn't know crap. Maybe they hear things when they are hanging out around events in the summer, but he isn't calling these guys up in the fall. He is simply reading tea leaves.

Not saying he does not have info, or sources, but some of his predictions (cb) seems to change when he wind blows from a different direction.

I think you need to refresh my memory where I said that Meyer never switches his picks because I have said that all analysts do, including Meyer, as recruitiments progress and new (or changed) information becomes available. But Meyer does not frequently change picks to the next visit, only to switch pick to the next visit and so on just to hedge, as others have implied.

The overwhelming majority of recruits do commit to a school they visit, so yes Meyer as well as every other analyst or logical person will indeed pick a school that receives an OV.

But feel free to continue to believe that the guy knows nothing, where in reality he is one of the best in the business with probably the most extensive network.

So what is next against Meyer? Let me guess... he has missed on some of his picks, right? :)

Can we all agree that there is no such thing as a nut-punch when it comes to recruiting wings (except for burger boys)? I like Nolley, but there are a ton of good wings every year so no big deal if we miss out.

The nut-punch talk is funny and entertaining...I like it. But it kinds kind of old when people bring it up for every recruit we lose.
