The funny thing about Shannon is, he's basically the player we thought Kahlil Whitney was a year ago.

Not quite, I had posted a comparison a while back. Shannon is athletic, plays hard, and hustles. Exceptional hustle. He gets a lot of points through hustle plays in the paint. The one area that I have some concerns is skills level. He needs to improve his shooting and ball handling, get tighter handles as he weaves through the crowds in the paint area. Whitney is more advanced in those areas but then again is one of the top recruits in the country. Skills-wise Whitney and Adam Miller are in a class of their own at MIF.

What if I told you this is the year recruiting turns around and sends us forward on a steady incline?

Possible, but they would have to close on more than 1 player from this weekend to likely happen.

Need a highly ranked big for this class. Like what they got this year but not enough to win BIG.

Joel Goodson

Supposedly, momma wants Shannon at Illinois. No clue if that's true. Definitely think the MIF is in our corner WRT this recruitment. We'll know soon enough.

It will be interesting to see if either of the Irvin's will be on the OV. I can't ever remember them being in C/U for an OV.

I mean, that's fine. I'm not gonna sit here and say I don't find Shannon's current ranking on some lists a bit ambitious. But the point stands. He'd be a very nice get.
Yeah I agree. Even if he's closer to a 100-125 player than a top 50, he's still a more than solid get. He's the type of player I think BU covets most (well at his talent level that is, i.e. athletic and high motor).

Like others have said, if he can improve his shot and tighten up his handles, he could be a 3+ year starter. As of now, if he can play defense well, he will see the floor early and often.

Fair enough, I think we are all surprised at current ranking, and it is probably predicated on his enormous potential has is the case most often. That said whether he is Top 50-Top 100 or elsewhere, he is still a Chicago kid who hopefully wants to stay home. That by it's own merit would rank as a huge get for the program and BU/staff. Either way I would be ecstatic with the kid, even if his shot doesn't improve, his length means he could rank very high in steals/deflections/rebounds/etc....We all would take that from a wing player.

Chris Fisher with another CB for TSJ.

Latest Shannon rankings.

Rivals #45
Coleman #90
ESPN #96
247 #108

Probably will end up composite in the #75-#85 range. Due to 5th year rankings widely varying, that range is where he will likely end up.

Capel and staff are in to see Anthony Walker tonight. They are following up on his OV to Pitt on Saturday.

His visit basically came out as he enjoyed it, the coaches want/need him, the fans knew him, and it wasn't a "waste of time". Doesn't sound overwhelming to say the least.

Pretty much, but with a much lesser shooting touch (hence, Whitney's explosion). While he's at finishing school, he can address the deficiencies in his game. Have to think that his shot will get a lot of attention.

I just became a big fan of referring to prep school as finishing school. I wouldn't object if we kept that going. :ROFLMAO:

Morning all! appear to be in really good shape with TSJ, hearing some visits being done today with a couple other guys, a 2019 big for one, then back to metro east for visit tonight with EJ. OffIcial Visit still on the calendar!!

Are we really nitpicking TSJ? He’s a high flying long athlete who plays hard and is climbing up the recruiting rankings. What more do we want? jeez...

It has nothing to do with nitpicking. I have not seen any posts yet claiming anything different than Shannon can help and that he would be a really nice get. Was it nitpicking when people were discussing JCL's lack of PG skills? Or Finke's lack of low-post moves?

Understanding a recruit's strong points and also areas that need improvement (independent of whether he ends up at UI of not) is a critical part of keeping expectations grounded and also understanding additional recruiting needs. Rather than unrealistically building recruits up only to bring them down harshly when some of those areas become apparent, which happens quite often, including some of the aforementioned players.

Well, it's common knowledge that we get first option for all MIF players. /s

Well said.

What is so hard to determine is how hard these guys are going to work when they get here.

Needs to work on handles and shot is a lot like what many would have said about Luther. He put in the work to improve. Others not so much

I believe his mom tweeted out a while back to an Illinois fan, that Illinois was in her top 3. That was before he committed to Depaul though.
