Epps is being recruited by several teams. Young kids like to be whined & dined....seeing the coaches in the stands to watch them all over America. They eat it up. Picking a school now would end it was all the losing coaches. Fans all over America are talking about him on the internet/podcasts. Some want to end the madness....some don't want it to stop!
Who's doing the whining in these scenarios? I would think it wouldn't be advantageous either way.

*been to 2 total final 4's and it took him like 16 years to get to the first one*

It really is all about perception

To be fair to Gonzaga, they've risen as a program over a pretty long period of time.
Ranked #2 when the tourney was cancelled
Couple recent elite 8s, couple more S16s.
Long tournament streak (2 decades)
Also, people remember #1 rankings.

Illinois is getting back on the radar as a national program thanks to repeated daggers from Ayo eventually getting a #2 ranking /1 seed. Star players like Ayo/Kofi help with media attention almost as much as a top team. But Gonzaga has had it rolling for some time. Reminds me a bit of Kansas when Roy was there.

I think someone made a comment recently hiring Deon Thomas as an assistant and another comment was made about the obsession with Alumni. I don't think that it is an automatic homerun when an alum is hired but it certainly helps. Alums are more likely to stay put as assistants unless it is a raise or a top job. They are home and they take pride in building up their school. Who else knows the school inside and out and understands the pressure more that someone who played there? There are exceptions but who better to sell North Carolina and Duke than Hubert and Scheyer? Woodson at Indiana.. I think Beard is from Texas. Roger Powell is in a great situation at Gonzaga, but it would be great if he was building up his alma mater. Chances are he would only be in that position here if it were the head job sometime way down the line. I greatly enjoyed the Frazier hire because chances are if he leaves it would be for a head job or a major bump in pay, nothing less.

But Champaign has much nicer weather than Spokane. At least currently...

I heard word that there was a 2023 recruit that we were in good shape for that liked the TA hire because he’s a Chicago guy. Am I crazy to think that’s gotta be about JJ?
yeah 2023 is loaded with local talent. Kylan Boswell is another originally from Champaign that ESPN has in the top 25. Doubt he's connected to TA tho but could be

Whined as in showing them an extra good time on their visits. Making them feel like a rock star. Calling them all the time to see how they are. No coach wants to not show up and some other coach point that out during the summer.

I heard the relationship has been strained between the staff and Reggie Bass due to some alleged attitude issues. I figured his commitment might be on shaky ground after the Harris get, and would think even more so if/when Epps commits. Obviously would love to snag all 3 guards, but if we Bass is a recruiting casualty for the sake of Epps, you have to take that swap every time.
Does this mean Storr is gone gone?

Pretty sure this was brought up by several people when he originally committed.

Lot of jawing and such. Several mentioned a bunch of technicals would have been issued and it would have to change before arriving on campus, or it wouldn't work.

I hope Bass doesn't end up being the one that got away.
