Woodson getting praise for bringing back half (at least) of Indiana's prodigal portal sons.

I know the situation isn't identical, but if Brad and Team Miller do manage to reach a rapprochement it would be hard to see it as anything other than a good thing.

I thought I read somewhere that Christian Bishop, from Creighton, had entered the transfer portal and that Illinois had reached out to him. If that is true is there any interest in him or would he be a good fit for the program?
I think we could certainly use a guy of his skills. He is a really good athlete and is capable of defending guys who are bigger than him. He isn't a great shooter, but converts at a high rate around the basket.
He's got several heavy hitters calling including Kansas, Arkansas, Texas A&M. He would be a good get IMO.

Solid player but we need forwards that can shoot the three. Having three shooters on the floor apparently isn't enough these days.

No one has to sit if they transfer this year. That is why the Portal is insane.
Everyone gets a one time no sit transfer. It’s unclear to me if a player that transferred last year and was granted a waiver (as almost everyone was), gets another year or if last year counts against the rule that is not yet in effect. Confusing enough?🙃

Arkansas and (especially) Texas A&M are heavy hitters now?

If you drew a Venn diagram of people who wouldn't take Miller back and the people who wouldn't take (random 3 star recruit our staff really likes), it would be a circle. We're not successful enough of a program to act like we're too good for talent.

94 kids rated 4⭐⭐⭐⭐ or higher in the portal. Pretty crazy to think when a typical year has less than 200 TOTAL! NCAA has built an environment that is uncontrollable and everyone needs to be patient. It's free agency basically and whoever has the best pitch with the best options will get the top players. After that, everything else will fall into place. Regardless of what WE think, we have been mostly irrelevant for nearly 20 years. We may not get the cream of the crop. The players we are going after were between the ages of 4-7 years old when we lost in the title game, which is what some of us are hanging our hats on and this year's 2nd round loss as a 1 Seed. Other than that, we are a slight blip on the map of NCAA Basketball. Yes, we have a lot of selling points. Facilities are upgraded/upgrading, we had 2 AA this year, fun PG returning, etc. But, we need to have perspective too.

To put it into perspective the portal is basically taking all of Major League baseball, wiping out 40-man rosters and then start picking teams.

30 MLB teams and 40 man roster = 1200 players
Current Transfer portal players = Slightly over 1200

How is it uncontrollable? This is the first year this has every been allowed and it is following/during a major historical period. There's absolutely no way to project into future years whether this will be the norm or whether it will settle down and look a bit less nuts moving forward. My guess is that this is just sort of the dam breaking and that, once this option becomes normalized, it will be more strategic and less of a free-for-all.

Call me crazy but I think it's going to calm down substantially starting next year. This year was the perfect storm of the no-sit-out transfer rule AND a free eligibility year combining. 2 completely unprecedented rule changes at the exact same time. The transfer thing will still be a big deal, but I don't think it will ever match what we're seeing this year. No way it gets over 1,000 kids in years moving forward.

Lol if Miller wants back in, we welcome him with open arms, full stop. Not saying it's the right thing or moral thing, but it's what the staff will do as it puts us in a better position to win next year.
And, it's a great chance to teach.

I had hoped they would ride it out together like Monte and Trent. Roommates and all.

Really? How is it uncontrollable?

I ask, how is this a controlled environment, then? Explain to me how, on average, 3 student athletes per basketball team is transferring this year? Does that seem controlled to you?

Did the NCAA just think, "ehhh, no big deal, maybe a few will transfer to be closer to home, or take advantage of an extra year of eligibility." What about the kids from last year that had seasons cut short (Basketball, wrestling, etc or cancelled baseball. softball, T & F, etc.) Were they given a free year, or opportunity to transfer without penalty? Nope. That is why the sit out year is imperative to some sort of normalcy.

The other option, which I am in favor of, and it was on the table a few years ago.
Student athletes when signing NLI had to declare one of two options.
1. I, student athlete, agrees to commit 4 years of eligibility to University X
2. I, student athlete, will be attending University X but intend to leave after ___ number of years.

It's pure chaos! Why have an NLI if this is how it will be? Yes, NLI are only a written agreement for 1 year of institutional attendance. However, every coach/university recruits and offers student athletes under the expectation they will be a long term part for the team.
