With NIL the big dogs were always going to eat.

ILL has to find a way to use this to their advantage. Continue to sign top 100 talent, minimize attrition, and continue to put players in the league. I believe this staff has what it takes to do all of that. There is no reason this university shouldn’t be competing in the upper half for years to come.

I can’t wait for the season.

247 doesn’t have much on him. Are we seriously interested? Is he? We are one of his better offers and is rated 3 star, but I’m not seeing a difference between his tape and Rogers’.
With a frame like that, he can guard PFs. Based on limited clips, I want him. As far as our interest, I think it's pretty high. I also think Rodgers and Ausar are not mutually exclusive.

When bball recruiting rankings are heavily weighted by number of commits, it's easy for UK to finish at the top because they bring in 4-6 guys every year.
Aren't there suppose to be some sort of graduation or other academic requirements? If there are how does Kentucky get so many recruits each tear?

Glad they aren’t mutually exclusive!

So, question, would you rather have both Rogers and Auzar or one of Rogers/Auzar and one of
a more traditional 5 like Essandoko/Kerr? I know we might get pushed around a bit by some of the more traditional bangers in the BIG but give me all the athleticism we can get!

As others much more tuned into what staff want have said, we'll take 5 in this class, with a possible sixth. Now, how that shakes out with transfers, no idea. I'd imagine 5 preps max, but #notaninsider.

Short answer: Students, in good academic standing, that drop out to go pro are excluded from the calculation.

Longer answer:

Teams need a rolling 4 year average APR of 930 to avoid sanctions (Earn 93% of the possible points). A lot of students going pro early make the academic progress of the others much more important. If you have 4 people going pro each year, you can afford an average of 1 academic issue per year, or 1 academic wash out (drop out or transfer in bad standings) every other year.

APR = Points earned * 500 / # of scholarship athletes (last year)

+ 1 point per scholarship athlete that returns
+ 1 point per scholarship athlete in good academic standing

Students in good standing who transfer out, or go pro are ignored. If they ever return and get their degree, they bolster the results.
Transfers out, in poor academic standing, are really bad (0 pts, and they count in the denominator)

Example 1:
7 returning players in good academic standing
1 returning players in poor academic standing
1 drop out
4 go pro
(7*2 + 1*1 + 1*0) * 500 / (7+1+1) = 833. Uh oh.

Example 2:
7 returning players in good academic standing
1 returning players in poor academic standing
4 go pro
(7*2 + 1*1) * 500 / (7+1) = 937. Barely okay.

This is why teams often like to have a few deep bench players who are solid students.

The vehicle to get money to players already exists. ILL-NIL.com directs every dollar to the players you specify. No shell company needed.
Interesting site and fun way to support the players you like. Any idea or guess the percentage of other schools who have a similar site set up?

Big recruiting weekend. Didn’t realize Ty Pence was going to be in CU along with Fears, Rodgers and Harris.

Serious question: Is it better to have a weekend that hosts multiple targets visiting (whether official or unofficially) or is it better for a target to have his "own weekend"? I can see pros and cons to each.

I am a BIG fan of Pence. I think he could see Schutt-like rises in the rankings at some point.
DB11 where do you compare Asa Thomas comparably to Schutt and Pence? And are we still in on Thomas? I really like the way he comes out of the ball talking about Thomas.

They staggered the official visits. Rodgers is Thursday - Saturday. Harris is Friday - Sunday. They each have time with the staff by themselves and also a chance to meet a possible future teammate.

Unofficials are almost always going to be multiples.

Who ever signs first. If you want to play with the Illini You Can't wait. The train is about to leave the station. Someone else will jump on board.

I have a lot of fear of wasting our time on recruits that are never going to happen after the Grove years. However, Underwood and co. don't seem to have a reputation for doing that so far, so this gives me hope that the ship hasn't yet fully left the harbor.
No more wandering in a Grove with t-rex arms, unable to grab any of the fruit?
