They think this is a better fit. Really good shooter and scorer. Can pass as well. Also Illinois vs Arizona for Boswell........
Also the Adam Miller experiment is heavily influencing the decision - done are the days where Illinois needs to guarantee starting spots to get talent. Even if the kids are fine with it, when it's the parents that are driving those conversations you know they'll never be happy unless their son is "the guy."

Hopefully the sell there is: hey we should have beaten Arizona *without* our starting pg, imagine what we could do with one.

It pains me to say a napoleonic gremlin like Lloyd will have Arizona back to relevance, but he will.

We have other recruiting battles to win. Jersey should be the least of your fears.
Would hate to see Fears in a B10 opponent uniform for 2, 3 years. Exactly...we have nothing to Fear... but Fears itself!

I’m not questioning BU or the great 0440…. But how many 6’5” - 6’7” wings does the team need? Are we just going to have 5 wings who can shoot playing together? Seems to me that Fears is the point guard we will need to replace/back up Belo. Belo can’t shoot, why does the staff feel we need to see that from Fears?
We just lost to a very good Arizona team that doesn't have a true point guard. They just have 5 guys who can shoot the rock, handle the ball reasonably well or better, and drive the paint.

Is the staff just looking to get 1 of Boswell/Fears/Ames? Or do they specifically want Boswell and Ames, and are holding Fears in reserve? Given the experience of not having enough PG depth this season, I'd think you'd like the idea of getting two of the three. I'm glad BU is so concerned with building the roster to do what he wants, and if Fears doesn't fit then his recruiting ranking is kind of irrelevant. But the idea an obviously talented player suiting up for MSU or UM, and playing with a grudge against us, makes me a tad nervous.

What’s the biggest weakness in his game? Struggles shooting. Already have Rodgers. Need guys that can fill it up from deep. Staff wanted to see him progress from deep in the last year and he just hasn’t.
Interesting. I'd think we'd want an AC replacement. In that scenario I'd be ok with a less that stellar shooter, but one that can be our floor general, which we are lacking today with AC out. JMHO

Feel really good about that one. In on him earlier than we were with Schutt. Very similar players imo. What Underwood is building is going to be so fun to watch in the coming years. Our "down" years will probably be 21-22 wins.
He’s building a pro style offense and that has to resonate with recruits and parents. Shot chart is layups, dunks, short floaters/runners, and threes coming from players that are interchangeable because of their height, length, and speed. I imagine Brad even wants fives that can pick and pop, but when you have a Hulk—I mean, Kofi—you take it every time.

Also, fun possibility. If Kofi decided to run it back he would easily become the all time leading rebounder and scorer in U of I history (and would have easily the most double doubles). That man deserves a final four.

you beat me to it skyldub...
prototype postionless basketball.. interchangeable, integrated parts... i'll have one of those, please
But most of the "wings" on the '89 team were very good passers. Hard to duplicate that with just any 6'6 athletic guy.

I believe Denny Crum said we were the best interior passing team he'd ever played.

I 100% agree with the “playing with the grudge” statement, but our guy might want to prove that he was the the right choice over the “grudge player” Just never know how those things play out. It’s a horrible feeling though when the grudge player kicks our but. 🤬 - new here & couldn’t figure out how to highlight the sentence in your statement like you old Wiley veterans do, plus I’m pretty computer - smartphone illiterate. 🤔 lol

is he a better draw for JJ Taylor and other Chicago talent?

To me you want skilled PGs on your team. I'd take 2 of Ames, Fears, and Boswell with Boswell likely being the hardest to land.

I've seen Ames listed between 6' and 6' 3". Which he surely is, lol. Anyone know his legit height? Am guessing 6' 3" is aspirational and 6' is an old measure. No shoes debate, please.
