And you won't, until after he's gone.
I feel like Underwood and the team are basically destined to have a transfer as the transition post Kofi. Kofi's dominance combined with the NBA not really being made for him just makes it an odd decision especially with NIL on the table now. There is a decent chance playing at UofI is Kofi's highest expected income

Have seen a lot of discussion on discrepancy in J. Fears' recruiting ranking (currently #27 in '23, 247 Composite), mostly in the negative direction.
Would anyone be knowledgeable enough to comment on our other guard targets in '23? I understand if there's some general fluctuation (and that our coaches' evals matter above all else), but more wondering if I should be anticipating any big ranking swings with the two names below:

* Kylan Boswell (#11, Composite)
* Dai Dai Ames (#50, Composite)
There is no descrepancy. We are talking high school kids in the class of 2023. Many are still developing, so prospect rankings are obviously fluid.

I do think all coaches recruit based on their own evaluations, with input from the recruiting services.

Barring the unforseen, I'd expect Boswell and Ames to stay about the same or move up.

Difficult to say since we really have no idea what he’s actually bringing in.

Belo will stay. Unless he comes back healthy and has a Deron Williams type of run that elevates his draft status to first round.

Watched the Sencire Harris against Gahanna game highlights. Gotta love his defensive intensity, his length, his ability to run the floor after causing a turnover, his aggressiveness to drive to the basket. Kid has the smarts and IQ to go with his attitude and athleticism. He and Melendez will be some high soaring and high basketball IQ wings.

I like him more every time I see new film of him. Great pick up.

TLDR: BU has put together good, versatile teams with depth and variety in skillets but I still think we are screwed.

The desert
Why do you think that sac?
I was summarizing the post I quoted, which listed all the great things about BU's roster construction and then proceeded to say we have only been successful because of the presence of one or two players and that they do not think we have anyone lined up in that role to keep us playing at a high level.

Sure seems that way. Hard to replace an AA like Kofi, but even thinking in terms of a BIG caliber starter, no one stands out as a guy waiting in the wings to step up. I suppose you could argue for Hawkins, but his skillset seems better suited to the perimeter --he just happens to be 6'10".

His skillset is best as a 4 which isn't a perimeter position. That doesn't preclude him from popping out and taking a 3 pt shot or handling at times. But he needs to work on his outside shot and stop over-handling the ball.

The kid's had a couple games with double-digit rebounds for goods sake.

A lot of coaches would beg to differ with you about the 4. It’s now mostly a perimeter position because most teams play 4 out offense, if not 5 out.

Depending on the coach, the 4 might be the secondary ball handler, or a great shooter for trail 3s (both traditionally perimeter skills), because a lot of times the “4s” responsibility is to take the ball out to start transition offense. The reason Hawkins can play there is because he has enough of both of those skills to keep the defense honest.

Otherwise, you see our 4 outside spots occupied mostly by guards and wings, making one of them the “4” by default.

Well I guess if you're going to call the 4 a perimeter position, they he could be considered a perimeter player. And what if you have a Center that is good at popping out and hitting 3 point shots? Would he be considered a perimeter player also? In today's game, is everybody a perimeter player?

I think it is highly unlikely Belo gets drafted in '22 at this point. Why would an NBA team want to take a risk with someone with health concerns? I don't really expect him back that soon so he would have to be absolutely electric when he finally does come back to get on the draft boards. Just don't see that happening in the stretch run.
Porter.?

Doubt it

Just by the video I’ve seen of Dainja, would predict his success level in proportion with his work with Fletch. Has skills but needs to be in condition and decide he needs to place defense. Would think he has physical abilities if he puts in the work. Could be a very capable replacement or a bench anchor depending on his mental approach.

Different stratosphere of player here.... Porter would have been drafted out of HS if it was allowed. There are players that play themselves onto draft boards and those that are predestined to get drafted.

I doubt we'll ever see a True Center like Kofi on the roster again under BU. Kofi was a gift from God delivered by Antigua and Brad changed everything about his offense to accommodate him. If you look at the guys we're pursuing in '23 & '24 its much more of a positionless player. Even the 5s we're bringing in like Diongue are long athletes, not much girth on their bodies. In fact I think Dainja is the protypical "Baylor" skilled/athletic 4/5 that we'll see more of in the future as our biggest guy on the floor. Painter is doubling down on huge centers and BU will not, imo

Brad can count: a made three is more than a made 2.
