Every year I attend the Bass Pro tournament and post a synopsis here afterward. Seen a plethora of future college AAs and NBA stars, the most impressive for me being John Wall. This year, I was sidelined by Covid and missed, though fortunately not severely sick having been shot and boosted.

Evidently, this year there were a myriad of stars. Fan and pundit talk all centered around a star-studded team from Sierra Canyon. But Pope Paul VI out of Virginia took them down in the title game, led by a future Michigan kid, Dug McDaniel, who was awarded Tournament MVP honors. The Illini will also have to face Bryce Thornton, headed to OSU, who was the leading scorer. Others will pop up on the Illini schedule in the next 4 years I am sure as reportedly this was the most talent filled field ever. Fortunately, no 7' 3"+ kids headed for other B1G rosters showed up.
Why are all those HS basketball players fishing?

Whats the word on his scoring prowess? I've read on here some are concerned with the shooting but then see stat lines like this. Is his game currently mainly drives to the hole, post based, or hustle points?
Fwiw, I could care less. BU has more than earned my trust. Just asking for someone I know ...

Yes, but he gets it done.

If Curbelo stays, the three freshmen stay, the three new freshmen are here with Hawkins I can't see why I would worry about what else happens. Safe to assume they work on it but there is no panic in my stretch of the woods. We need to make it worth Kofi's time to stay just to listen to Fichigan mispronounce his name on purpose a couple more press conferences.

Agreed in terms of being pumped for the future. Not sure about anything else you said.

Podz, Goode and RJ have all shown flashes. Hawkins could be stellar and Payne has started to show something too. Dainja is obviously an a talented unknown. It’s gotta be at least 90% Curbelo is back and that’s huge. Epps and Rogers have the skill sets to make immediate impacts while Harris gains muscle and effectively takes a redshirt. And depending on Kofi and Grandison and the transfer rules, we’ll see what happens there. If this transfer rumor is legit circulating is legit, one of Lieb, Hutch or BBV have to clear out and I’d honestly be fine if they all did. Get some new blood. Has the look of a super talented, albeit young, roster that should be top 25 and be incredibly competitive as the year moves along. If Kofi, Belo and Grandy are here, we’re a Final Four contender.

Good take, but the team, without Kofi, goes from old to very young. I can't agree that you can take away a POY candidate and three 5th year srs. that we have watched emerge to play big time basketball pretty impressively, and expect the team to compete for the B1G title.

That said, my expectations have absolutely no impact whatsoever on what these kids can do. There will be talent and capability on the court at all times, Grandy and Hutch and what they can add or will do is a mystery for the moment. They sure need Grandy's experience and efficiency. But BU loves to compete and win, so I do expect them to be fighting for and NCAA bid. Now, if for some freakish reason, Kofi returns? Well, if he does, Illini fans could be in shock so long it will take them until Feb. to shake it off and return for the party. Best thing is, the program is in good hands and the players are not only pretty quality, team first, guys, but also can put it in the basket.

Unless we add a transfer or new recruit, it seems unlikely that Harris would RS. Assuming Belo comes back and is healthy, we'd only have four guards on the roster (Belo, Epps, Podz, and Harris).

I said complete in the conference, not actually for a title

I didn’t say actual redshirt, I said effectively because he’s not going to play over all the dudes I mentioned

Cuonzo to pounce in 3...2...
Because of Smith, every time I’m on a treadmill, his name crosses my mind for a fleeting second 😅 When I was on the treadmill today and that happened, I thought, “Maybe Smith was right. This DOES suck.”

Jeremy Fears and Kylan Boswell are currently squaring off on ESPN2. Fears just knocked down a tough 3 to take the lead in the second quarter
