People are surprised Boswell may not want to “come home.” It’s not surprising to me at all. I moved from southern IL when I was about 10. When someone asks me where I’m from it’s not southern IL.

His family and friends are on the west coast. While I understand he has some family here and possibly some old friends. His main support system of mom and dad are on the west coast.

Id also be willing to bet he has stronger bonds with his friends he’s made in high school compared to grade school.

I get he’s from this area, but this probably isn’t what he considers “home” anymore.

You're considerably older than him and have spent a considerably larger portion of your life away from Illinois. That obviously doesn't guarantee that coming back is or was a draw for him, but it's not a one to one comparison.

Not saying it won’t be AZ. But AZs guy also thought they were getting Adam Miller even though that wasn’t the case the whole recruitment.

You we're very, very confident prior to that visit. That first sentence makes me think you're confidence had dropped substantially. Could be reading too far into it.

Yeah, I just caught up after 5+ pages. That deteriorated quickly. I was having more fun with the comments after his visit here. The difference between a loss now and a loss five years ago is the transfer portal. It's the great equalizer when losing out on prep star.

I wonder when we next sign an McD AA. These new assistants seem to have the chops but they have their work cut out for them. It does seem like a constant uphill battle.

If there's anything that I don't like about this(and it could just be me) is that I feel like we might have been a courtesy visit due to his family history here. That's not to say he wasn't interested, but in the end, AZ is a borderline blue blood. That's tough enough to overcome, but with him being in they same state...it feels like this might have been a formality. When it comes to 17 year old kids....who knows.

Well at least we don’t have to wait until the 28th.

The formula of “Once a date is set, new crystal balls carry more accuracy” strikes again. It’s not always that way, but seems to be the trend.

Plus the whole interview/breakdown with a guy that was a former Arizona player (or walk-on or whatever) was a bad sign.

Can you imagine if he said he was going to do a breakdown of his college decision with Mike Latulip (or whoever would be equivalent to the AZ guy)? Everyone would be going nuts that he was a lock to us.

Hard to really make that call until we see how they actually play in college. But at the end of the day, if the staff felt like they needed more evaluation time with Fears and he didn't want to wait, then I respect that. They've earned that much with how they've rebuilt this roster and this program.

1. This 21/22 Illini team is special and very talented. Enjoy the ride!!
2. We have an awesome coach in BU and a great staff. Trust in them.
3. Very few of the "insiders" on this board know any more about these recruitments than we do.
4. This recruitment isn't over yet.

Can't remember a time that we looked great in such a big recruitment only to have sentiment flip flop overnight. With guys like Cliff, Djax, etc. we were always "right there with [blank team]" but I never got the feeling we were definitively leading. This is completely different - from guys on the team saying he's gonna commit "soon" to our insiders saying he didn't like his AZ visit. What happened?

I think some updates to the card are needed, but I was still almost able to get a bingo in this recruiting thread. Very surprised I haven't seen a "nut punch" or "didn't want him anyway", though maybe I pulled the trigger too quickly For the record, "bags" is now deceptive/over-the-top NIL numbers.

He must of had his conversation with Brad and it didn’t go well....or all along he wanted to go to Zona and we were the courtesy visit, not Zona. I’m going to go with the latter because of his comments about the visit. Oh well this stuff happens. Move on to the next one, don’t dwell on it. Let’s go beat the Buckeyes!

More importantly I want to see this team go on a run and get to the big dance/win some championships consistently and the rest will fall into place with the recruiting.
