I was very impressed Ty yesterday. I think his stats in about 20 minutes were 8 pts, 4 rbs. And 4 assists. Excellent passing and ball handling and overall court awareness. Rebounding and shooting was good. He also had a nice putback dunk. All against top level competition. If he plays like that next year he will be on the court a lot.
Agree. I was impressed with his composure. He played like he belonged.

Yeah, but we’ve been to two Final Fours (and gotten FOUR #1 seeds) since their last Final Four … I think, based on reading their boards occasionally, their psychological hurdle is just making the final weekend.

With us? 2005 wasn’t THAT long ago … we’ve been to the Final Four EIGHT years more recently than Arizona, for example. But that Natty?? If we won the NC next year, we’d have 1 NC, 6 Final Fours and 32 NCAAT appearances, plus maybe a FIFTH #1 seed and our 19th Big Ten title. The lack of that NC keeps us in the neighborhood of Arkansas, Cincinnati and Oklahoma rather than Syracuse or Arizona historically, for many casual fans. Given our other VERY impressive historical stats, we’d literally jump from like 20th all-time to 12th overnight.

Add in the fact that we’ve had some heartbreaking near misses … and we WANT IT BAD! ;)
without seeing who made and I was reading this and thought “this sounds like Foghter of the Nightman”. Your level of optimism with accompanying stats is unparalleled and always makes me feel better about our program. Thank you!

Yes he will. If the season started tomorrow he’d start at the 3 but would be more of a point forward. Regardless he will be getting heavy run.

Assuming Jake is not back. If Jake returns and Hawk starts as expected over Goode we will need more shooting. One reason I hope we can get Hawks shooting to progress above 30 percent which it has yet to do. I really hope Hawk can get above 35 percent if so the look out! Then Ty can play side by side and really be huge. If Hawk or Ty aren't close to 35 percent then Ty may play more when Goode or other player that could shoot is in the floor. If not don't count Goode or a transfer to come in and challenge. We need shooting and that was obvious after the Houston game. We really we need at least 3 if not 4 shooters around Kofi. Last year we suffered in that area outside of Plummer. TF was a streaky shooter. One reason I feel RJ will start hopefully step up at the 2 or 3 and Skyy at point but we need at least one more shooter if not two around Kofi. We didn't shoot it like that last year consistently and we need to change that.
I hope we can add a couple more shooters especially if Kofi stays. The V Tech transfer we have connections with who played 31 minutes a game could shoot and play point too. A bit of leadership from a shooter/ball handler could be massive. Could slide Skyy to the two, RJ the three, Epps/Skyy also backing up at point. Three guys that could shoot it around 40 percent would be huge. It is going to get really interesting over the next few weeks! Go Illini!

I would worry a little bit about starting Rodgers and Hawkins together just because of the lack of 3 point shooting. Besides that it would be an incredibly versatile lineup. Still just imagine a lineup with them RJ, Clark, and Kofi. That's a big boy team.

I'm hopeful that Rodgers can progress in his shooting a bit before the season begins. His form looks pretty good from what little I've seen, so I'm not sure what's preventing the higher % (particularly from the FT line -- anybody who's seen him live have thoughts?). Even if his percentages aren't the greatest this upcoming year, I hope we see a guy willing to shoot from deep when left open. That was always DMW's biggest barrier to being effective.

Also, Hawk is another guy whose lack of success has been a tad befuddling. Good looking, very compact form. Just comes out as a line drive unfortunately. If he could just add a tad more arc on his shot, I think it'd be money (relatively speaking).

Agreed, that will also be the case if and when Dain plays the 4. It is going to be interesting to see how good Dain really is.
One reason If Kofi stays and i think he will. I expect us to add a verteran PG that can execel at D and it shooting. I also would expect a talented 3/4 player that could slash, play D, and shoot it at an effective level.

My thoughts exactly. I think RJ is close to a lock to start at the 3. But I think Rodgers will play a lot. At both the 3 and 4.
i think RJ is gonna start too, but idk if it matters if we say he’s at the 2, the 3 etc.

I think in combination with each other, we’ll have 3 wing lineups on the floor with different skill sets. If Hawkins improves his shooting, when kofi needs a break, I’d love to see a lineup of

Skyy (handler/creator/shooter)
RJ (slasher/shooter)
Ty (handler/slasher/facilitator)
Goode (strong shooter)
Hawkins (Facilitor/shooter)

And I think defensively you play with the ability of switching 2-5 here.

If we get TSJ I’d love to go insane and put him in for Skyy to see what it looks like, but I don’t know if 2 point forwards in TSJ and Ty would give us enough handling. But then you’re looking at switching 1-5 defensively.

Also take this is a grain of salt because I have a bias toward lengthy wings.
