Scared Say It GIF by Regal

If you say Bryce Hopkins in the mirror 3 times he magically appears in the portal again

It seems as though BU gives preference to defensive studs over offensive ability. I recall early in the year Plummer sitting extended stretches due to the lack of D. He played more due to the lack of options. While I think RJ and Luke both showed the ability to have a nose for the ball, are they ready to be lockdown defenders? I think we have the makings of a quick team, no doubt. But there's not a lot of experience coming in, and I'm curious how that translates defensively next year.

Brad is perfectly comfortable starting Dain at the 5 next season. Should tell you all you need to know.
I'm assuming Dain or mystery transfer is our starting 5 next season, which makes sense, but I hope we also get more Coleman at center minutes next season. Was fun in flashes, and Brad specifically said he liked that look after he tried it last season (forget which game). Coleman looked comfortable offensively at 5, especially passing, and said he's been playing 5 since HS. I think against lineups that don't have a big bruising center, it can be really viable.

Skyy
Epps/Harris
RJ
Rodgers
Coleman

would be a super fun small lineup for stretches, IMO.

AJ Green from UNI just entered the portal. Would be a solid option at the 2 guard if he's willing to take a reduced role. I don't know how he is defensively, but I think he would fit that "shooter" role we crave.

With Plummer it was a mix of bad defensive focus and size, though. RJ and Goode are better on D than Plummer simply through the virtue of their size.

I understand your point, but ZZ Clark was just watching scrimmages and the two guys he brought up were RJ and Dain. I think we all like RJ already. The fact that Dain stood out to him says a lot to me.
Where'd you see that? Would love to check out whatever interview that was from.

I am hoping you are not correct or it will be long season. Starting 3 freshman not a recipe for success. I sure hope we end up with 2 starters out of the portal.

The guys we have that want to be here are all good. I've moved on. I'll miss Kofi but am excited to see the return of the flying Illini! I believe in Brad's process and we're seeing the results. Its been a long time since we had a group full of 4 stars let along a 5 star. The only thing that I want to know though is what Grandison's going to do? Not see a lot of chatter about that. Maybe I missed it. He comin back or movin on?

Dain isn't a freshman, and I didn't say anything about starting three freshmen, or even two? I was talking about a lineup to run for stretches, obviously with the roster we have now. I think we'll hit the portal too. I think most likely/ideal starting lineup is Skyy-Transfer-RJ-Coleman-Dainja/Transfer

Gotta assume we start at most two freshman with the roster constructed as it is, with the exact lineup depending on who starts at 5, Hawkins or Dain. I would expect the latter lineup if we don't add anyone else.

He did say, "would be a super fun small lineup for stretches" rather than a starting 5.

As it stands today my take is.
Skyy.
RJ.
Goode/Ty
Hawk
Dain.

Ty may edge out Goode but Goode played well and can put shoot him plus knows the system. I like more good shooters and RJ at the 2 with our current roster assuming Jake n Hutch are gone.

My bad. I did not read your whole post and just saw the lineup and inferred you were saying that would be the starting lineup.
