Nostalgic? For a few months ago? Ok.

Coleman is 2 years younger than Nance so they are at a different place. Is Hawkins better than Nance is now in two years? I think so.

And Melendez couldn't beat out Damonte either so are you fine if he leaves? (both should have started over Williams but we aren't the coach)

And its not being sentimental. Its called loyalty(see: website) and developing players like a program is supposed to do. If none of that matters then we can save a bunch of money on a coaching staff. Why do we need Underwood? It comes down to recruiting from the portal and letting them loose. You know...basically turning college basketball into the next AAU level. You know what you wind up with. A bunch of talent and a crappy product.
So we shouldn’t prioritize getting the best players available we should prioritize loyalty? This is the losers mentality that turned Illinois into a Big Ten bottom feeder for a decade and I for one am elated this weird culture from the Weber/Guenther era is coming to an end.

No one is stopping you from having “loyalty” to you favorite players when they go to mid majors… which is exactly where Coleman is headed if he wants a guaranteed starting spot.

A fact I still use around Huskies people to this day. Any time we need an answer for Sonny Sixkiller.
A really nice reference.....but I believe Sonny played for Washington a little more recently than that. Left college in the early 1970's I believe.

1. Getting recruited over is normal. It happens at all programs. If you are scared of competition go enroll at Illinois Chicago Circle.
2. Nobody has a right to starter minutes or to be featured in the offense. You earn it by working hard and delivering results.
3. Coleman is a great kid with great athleticism. He should not be worried unless we bring in Joel Embid, Jason Tatum and Paul George. Coleman will get his chance. However if he chooses to transfer I won't blame Brad. Its on Coleman.
4. Brad's job is to win basketball games. Whether it is with 4 year players (5 for Trent and DaMonte) or 3 year players (Kofi and Ayo) or 1 year like Alphonso that is his job. We have had and will continue to have great teams winning teams. To win requires talent. When you win you are delivering great product. Your opinion that a program is only supposed to develop players and anything else is wrong puts you back in the 1970's. People don't work at same company for 30 years anymore, kids go where they get best opportunity, generation Z kids switch jobs every 10 months.

Have you actually seen what is going on this year? Buying players, players attempting to bribe programs, player tampering, 1500 players in the portal dude. This is college basketball right now and its ugly. And if a player like Hawkins is leaving because someone could possibly take some of his playing time, then he probably should be leaving. It has nothing to do with disrespect. It has to do with competition and winning basketball games. If you dont want to fight for playing time, then you should probably transfer to Eastern.
THIS! Get on the bus or get left behind.

Murphy's bought out BW3 that was right next door. That was around 1999/2000 IIRC. Do miss those Bacon Mega Wednesdays and logo glasses from Murph's. So many memories from that place.
BW3? They expanded into a space that was a coffee shop in 2009.

1984 Rose Bowl UCLA 45 Illinois 9
2002 Sugar Bowl (BCS bumped B10 champ from Rose Bowl) LSU 47 Illinois 34. Was like a home game for LSU
2008 Rose Bowl USC 49 Illinois 17

Counting on Brett to make it happen!
I was JUST too young to really remember the 2001-02 Sugar Bowl, but from seeing video and photos of the game … for it being in LSU’s backyard, there were still a LOT of Illini fans there:

Illini football fans are there, and there are WAY more of them than our rival fan bases - and even some of our own, self-hating fans 😉 - think. We just need something to cheer for to get invested again!

Now this could potentially could be a silly question if I decided to sit and ponder, but I'm too lazy and what other takes on it...

While McCullar would definitely help this team on both ends (especially defensively) if he were to sign with Illinois, would he create a bit of a log-jam at the 3-4 position?

Why should a fanbase have loyalty to a player that isnt loyal to his team? That is the new era of college basketball now for the most part. Not saying I wont check up on Hawkins wherever he lands, but if he or any other player hits the transfer portal when they are slated to be a starter then Im not going to have the same attitude towards them compared to a player that finished their career at Illinois.
I don't think you have to be loyal, but the "Bye Felicia" meme is disrespect. That's basically the core intent of that meme. Last I checked, not a single one of the players to transfer out of our program in the last couple years has turned around and trashed or disrespected the program or the staff, and I don't expect Hawkins will be the first if he does leave. It's sad that some of our fans feel the need to take up this attitude, especially when the players leaving have been professional about it.

Are we looking at a experienced PG. Ive heard names but not much recently. I hope we can find an experienced one that can shoot it. That along with Nance is what I'm hoping for.

As a former b-dubs employee circa 1998 I can confirm the original BW-3 on green st closed due to the most fantastic, glutinous mismanagement I’ve ever seen and Murphy’s bought the space and expanded into it.

I was proud to have participated in said mismanagement….as are my friends.

Um, that meme is also meant to be funny and it is. Dont take everything on the internet so seriously. You have no idea how I feel based on a gif lol.

I agree. I think we need a pass first 1 and a rebounding 5.
