Healthy or not, if Belo cant shoot past 10 feet he is never going to see an NBA court as a player.
Andre has Allan Iverson / Nate Archibald /Stefan Curry/ John Stockton type ability to jitterbug and drive the lane. He was able to convert the drives into points his freshman year but due to injury/Covid and Ayo going to NBA unable to convert his sophomore year. Great potential but has to be able to hit at least the mid range jumper to play in NBA. There was no year to year improvement. Hopefully he does improve at St. Johns and eventually makes NBA. He also has to become more a team player. Too ball dominant. Also gambles on steals too much on defense.

I would say it is a long shot but then again I never expected Fred Van Fleet 6'1" @ 14 ppg sr year at Wichita State to go from being undrafted become an NBA all star. Fred was a 43% college shooter but shot 39%from three.

This isn't directed at you specifically, so I apologize for quoting your post.

How many more times are we going to discuss the NBA draft prospects of a former player in the RECRUITING thread? There has been absolutely nothing new to add to the discussion for months.
Sorry for kicking off the "Its Always Sunny" discussion. Ill go back to recruiting. I would like to have "Neat Pants" more than anything. Can we make "Neat Pants" a thing?!?!

Belo is 16% from 3 across 2 college seasons and those shots are 3 feet closer to the rim than Rondo's (NBA vs College 3pt line). Additionally, the NBA has turned into a 3 point contest in recent years. The average 3 point attempts per game in 21-22 was nearly double of what it was when Rondo was playing in All-Star games. All of this makes a difference. How it relates to recruiting though, I'm not sure LOL.

IU will struggle shooting the ball that’s for sure. I don’t get the hype personally but it seems like every time IU is primed for a good season, the media likes to blow it out of proportion. I think it’s trying to force a continuation of their storied program.

Sorry, it was originally in reference to new recruits being better at ball handling than TF, Ayo, Belo, and Miller. So originally it was in reference to recruiting. However I guess I could post a meaningless gif like many do. He has mad handles!

Sure but the Rondo was an All-Star. Nobody is predicting that for Belo, just that he has the potential to be in the NBA in some capacity. We like to think of the superstars but there are plenty of NBA role players who have weakenesses in their games. And Rondo became a pretty decent 3-pt shooter at 28. So it is a skill that can improve, even after a player gets to the league.

It doesn't really relate to recruiting but the topic was out there and I had some thoughts. I sincerely hope Pete Nance will do something soon that will bury this discussion under 30 pages of joyous posts.

Haha you and me both!

I do think Belo will get looks from NBA teams. A professional career similar to Rondo's could happen for him, but is highly unlikely imo. I don't think he is as good as Skyy (which I believe was the original assertion someone made), let alone as good as Rondo is (er, was).

My respect for our insiders is immense, but between the Zags involvement and now this, there are some signs that a prior Nance strong lean towards the Illini may have changed after our Mayer take. Hope I'm wrong!!
Pretty much every team is going to contact Nance. He's the belle of the ball now. We've won several high-profile recruiting battles already this off-season. Let's see if we can pull it off one more time.

I mean, you say "now this," but the referenced tweet clearly indicates that contact has been ongoing since before the combine. If your thesis is that he was a strong lean to the Illini and now suddenly that is wavering because UNC is involved, that doesn't hold water. They've always been involved.

Plus, the only actual "signs" we've had are from Twitter or anonymous insiders around here. Some of those insiders have a pretty good track record but nothing should be considered ironclad until the ink is dry.

Things can change in the blink of an eye - that’s for certain!

All I saw on the Hansberry kid (his highlight tapes) was a 6-7 guy who is strictly a low post scorer. That (if it's accurate) doesn't excite me much. If we got Nance along with Mayer, how much would that piss off UNC?
