You're drinking too much kool-aid. None of those guys have proven anything at this level yet except Shannon. Two years ago, Curbelo was known as the top true point guard recruit in the country, Ayo had multiple triple doubles(because he was a playmaker with the ball in his hands), I heard the same thing about Frazier as Epps coming out of high school. You really don't know how these guys will transition. People are acting like this is the '05 Illini. I'm hopeful, but some of these comments are out of touch with reality right now.
Some people can see things before others can. Some people believe when others doubt. Some people are optimist when others are pessimist. It's all perspective. Yet it all boils down to watching them perform and seeing what happens. The optimist may be right! So might the pessimist! I'd rather believe that what these proven coaches see in these players to be true. That they are special talents that will perform at a high level and carry the beloved to greatness again, as those who've come before them! I-L-L

Hey, I hope you're right and we're all celebrating even more than just a BIG championship next year.

I wish I understood exactly how the transfer portal works. Would somebody be willing to provide a brief summary? Thanks in advance. The portal, along with NIL, has dramatically changed the landscape of college sports.

As far as I can tell, It’s the Wild West. College free agency. You can buy players under the guise of “NIL.”

If we do end up with nance, I still want to see what Coleman can do with a larger starting role. Would love to see:

Skyy- TSJ- Mayer- ColeHawk- Nance

And off bench comes
Epps- RJ- Dain-Rodgers-Goode- Harris.

That is just an embarrassment of riches
I think this is the right starting line up. Melendez off the bench for Cohawk and Mayer at the 3 and 4 with almost starters minutes.

I think there are two parts to the portal. One is for players like Malachi who were under rated in HS and go to a smaller rated college. They perform well at that level and want to take a step up in competition. They can go into portal and find a school that is higher ranked to get better exposure. Then the second part you add NIL it offers money to players who are proven and again what to improve their position for the NBA or just want the money.

Tim Anderson.

The thing is does Nance want to play center?
There's a lot of confidence from insiders, but yeah, this question has me wondering as well. I think it's also interesting how cavalierly people slot CoHawk into center minutes. I have no idea what any of these players are thinking, but it seems like conventionally players want to play down a spot thinking it will help them get into the league. So every natural 2 is looking to get PG minutes. All the PFs want to play and shoot from the outside because it will help their draft status. And so on.

This is why Underwood makes the big bucks. Finding the right roles for the guys on the roster and keeping people happy when life isn't quite meeting their expectations.

Let’s just say I’m happy I’m not the one having to manage players and their camps’ egos and expectations.

If I’m the staff I’m saying we want to play position less basketball. Someone has to help guard the opposing teams center and we will rotate throughout the game and double and stuff like that so you aren’t on an island. But offensively we won’t stick anyone in the post like we did with Kofi is my bet. Dainja from time to time maybe. Unless it’s just an obvious mismatch for Hawk/Nance/Mayer at the 4. Anyways the part that’s hard isn’t the pitch - it’s Nance believing in an offense he hasn’t really seen.

Correct me if I am wrong but, "center" is less and less of a thing nowadays IMHO.
Agreed. Dainja has to be our "center." Call him what you want, but he has to be a stud. Strong rebounding, tough post defense without fouling. He needs to score posted up, but He also needs the opportunity to step outside the low block; he's got a face up game and we need him to create jump shots. We have seen that he can do that. So put any label on him you want, but he has to be a force inside, on both ends of the court. No more Omar Payne. I'm sure Nance doesn't want to play "center," and I doubt if anybody on our staff thinks he would or should. I doubt if TA or anybody else has put that bug in his ear. Our coaching staff is simply too smart for that.
