If Nance didn't want to compete, he should have stayed at Northwestern.
Yeah, we should expect kids to put team/school above self interest. Especially guys who are on the cusp of getting into The League.
If Nance didn't want to compete, he should have stayed at Northwestern.
Are you sure they're not more athletic Larry Bird hands?
Not saying it will happen but it makes you wonder if he does end up staying at Northwestern. If Nance didn't want to compete, he should have stayed at Northwestern.
That seems harsh. I'm guessing it matters to him what his role is, and we need a 5 more than a 4. He might not feel our situation is as good because of where he'll get his minutes. If Nance didn't want to compete, he should have stayed at Northwestern.
Mmmm disagree here. Nance is a plus athlete. Really good defensive rebounder. We'll be solid without but there's no world where Nance doesn't make this team better.Getting Nance is that important? He's methodically too slow for our team. Sorry, love his shooting and dribble handoffs, but he's only a decent defender and rebounder for his size. We don't really need an offensive center, just a defensive one. Rebounding will be all hands on deck ... by committee.
Dain at the "5" unless the opposing team has no true big ... then BU has Dain or Coleman as option at the 5. TSJ at the 4. Mayer is better at the 3. RJ at the 2 ... Ramse must start. Skyy at the 1.
Coleman can start at the 5 or spell mins at the 4 and 5. Ty and Goode can spell mins at the 3 and 4, although Goode is best left to the 4. If Mayer goes out, Goode must come in. Need outside shooters on the floor. Sincere can spell mins at the 2. Epps can spell mins at the 1.
We have athleticism, speed, and versatility. Let's use it.
I believe it was a jab at Northwestern, not at Nance. That seems harsh. I'm guessing it matters to him what his role is, and we need a 5 more than a 4. He might not feel our situation is as good because of where he'll get his minutes.
The only world where Nance doesn't make the team better is a cascade effect causing RJ's mins to go down. RJ is going to be a super star. When BU was questioned 1 month ago by Andy Katz ... this was after TSJ and before Mayer ... who was the going to be his go to offensive #1 option ............................Mmmm disagree here. Nance is a plus athlete. Really good defensive rebounder. We'll be solid without but there's no world where Nance doesn't make this team better.
Per an article from accsports.com - "Nance, per Bart Torvik’s database, is one of 11 high-major players since the 2007-08 season to post career numbers of 20 percent defensive rebound rate, 12 percent assist rate, 50 2P% and 33 3P% (100+ 3PA). "
Planning on a guy that's listed 216 or so lbs in Hawk at the 5 is not a good idea vs several quality teams. He will get killed on D. We will have to help out constantly and that will leave many good shooters open. Dain needs to be that guy or add at least a back up in the portal . Hawk was our 4th option at the 5 last year for a reason and he didn't match up when he played the 5. In spots maybe he can vs some teams but we need another true big besides Dain for the B10 and other top programs.Getting Nance is that important? He's methodically too slow for our team. MayerCan’t Nance, Danja and Hawkins share the 4/5.. getting plenty of minutes…
They could, and many including myself believe that would really work well. The problem is how does BU play all these wings ... these guys that are in the 2-4 position. We are loaded. Some of those wings do really well at the 4 too. Can’t Nance, Danja and Hawkins share the 4/5.. getting plenty of minutes…
Dain will be that guy ... to start. You have two options if you don't believe CoHawk alone is up to that backup defensive role as the 5. You deny the entry pass, and you disrupt the move to the basket. We have length, quickness, and defensive minded athletes.Planning on a guy that's listed 216 or so lbs in Hawk at the 5 is not a good idea vs several quality teams. He will get killed on D. Last I saw Hawk was listed at at 216lb and about the same as Mayer in weight and only an inch in height. Plus even if the team defense is improved elsewhere in that doesn't mean we wouldn't prefer to to be add a more physical presence if he we can. Hawk will be behind Dain at the 5 imo.You have two options if you don't believe CoHawk is up to that backup defensive role as the 5. You deny the entry pass, and you disrupt the move to the basket. Or you play Nance as backup at the 5 some of the time. But don't forget that Nance and CoHawk are both 6'10" and 225 pounds last I heard. Coleman is working hard on his body and outside shot per BU.
The lists are not up to date. At least we're not Gonzaga, where Drew Timme continues since his freshman year to be 6' 10" and 235 lbs. We have Fletch and every day guys. Hawk will definitely be behind Dain with the real Bigs, but he will get mins at 4 and 5.Last I saw Hawk was listed at at 216lb and about the same as Mayer in weight and only an inch in height. Timme has many millions of dollars waiting for him if he can ever get into shape, but every year he comes back looking like he cares more about his facial hair than being NBA ready. The lists are not up to date. Yeah, we have every reason to want Nance. Extremely versatile and with a high hoops IQ. I think it's very important.Mmmm disagree here. Nance is a plus athlete. Really good defensive rebounder. We'll be solid without but there's no world where Nance doesn't make this team better.

Oh I think he will too. I just hope we add another true big for certain types of teams. I just don't know who that may be. I feel our new guys that have not played a game in an Illini Uniform will be 4 of our 5 starters. Skyy, TSJ,RJ, Mayer and Dain. I don't see RJ going to the bench. He shoots it too well and is good all round. Especially if Hawk must play extended time at the 5 spot. We have far more options at the 3/4 to fill those minutes. The lists are not up to date. People are misconstruing BUs remarks about RJ. The idea that he said RJ was his #1 option is just not supported if you listen to the interview. The only world where Nance doesn't make the team better is a cascade effect causing RJ's mins to go down. he replied without hesitation - RJ.
So if CoHawk's and Dain's mins are the only ones supplanted by having Nance, I agree with you. We have too many quick tough guys who need mins and make us so lethal.
Being Gonzaga over the last decade or so would have been terrible. Thank goodness we never had to deal with players like Timme. The lists are not up to date. On a per-possession basis, both Mayer and Nance blocked more shots than Kofi did last season, so if anything I'm expecting our rim protection to improve if we land both. And I'm also expecting our perimeter defense to be better than it was last season by virtue of getting longer and more athletic in the form of Shannon and Mayer, both of whom have great defensive reputations.I just hope we add another true big for certain types of teams. I just don't know who that may be.
Ryan Young only started once last year, and averaged 17 minutes a game. Typically Nance and Beran started in the front court. Nance is listed as an inch taller and 10 lbs heavier than Beran.Nance would be a nice add, but if it's a 5 we want, he doesn't really fit the bill. I don't remember him playing 5 at NU, except maybe when Ryan Young was sitting (though I'm no expert on NU b-ball).
Except for the fact that that was BU's answer, you may be correct.People are misconstruing BUs remarks about RJ. The idea that he said RJ was his #1 option is just not supported if you listen to the interview.
