So the plan is a single backup big with our options rn being one of Perrin, Haugh, and Butz?

Any update on our pursuit of these 3? Who is the staff prioritizing?
That makes sense to me. Sounds like Haugh could be it if rumors are true. Butz that could be wrong. I have no sauces and am not rising to bates.

The Bates talk starts here. Indy's gif is of a player with the last name of Bates.

Ant's original Bates tweet is now deleted, but Indy follows it up with this, saying he knows where Ant got his info:

This doesn't mean it's close to done, but yes, it's been hinted at.

Edit: And 0440 is obviously of a differing opinion to Ant, lol. At this point, I'm legit curious to see what the heck Emoni does.
I don't think their opinions necessarily differ. 0440 says he's not coming. That's my guess. Felt the same about Dior.

Ant didn't have an opinion. He was just repeating some intel. My take is that Bates would love to come here. Wouldn't surprise me to hear the same about Dior. We've moved well past the stage where we have to grab any new shiny thing that comes our way. So guys are going to be reaching out to us all the time that we'll have no interest in.

For the 100th time(at least from me)…..Illinois will not be taking Bates.

Strictly just to avoid the circus it brings right? Because fit wise some of the line ups Brad could throw out there with him would be incredibly exciting.

Memphis went 15-2 after he left….and it wasn’t because they got more talented with him leaving
I understand this logic, but that does assume that BU & co. can't right the ship. Certainly not a guarantee, but the past is not always prologue. It's definitely a risk.

Circuses have a need for a Circus Masters - after all it is managed chaos, animals have a mind of their own.

Did we not have a similar situation to Memphis 2 years ago - perhaps on a smaller scale? We did good winning B1G tourney with the circus and did good winning B1G without the circus.

While the statistics from Memphis proves (granted I have very limited data/knowledge) that they did not have a good Circus Manager, while the statistics from Illinois proves that we HAVE a great circus Manager.

In Brad, my circus manager, I trust. But, your point is noted.

Ofc, Mayer was to go to UNC, and Nance was to remain in the draft.

But you're right. Guys like Bates and Dior are talented but have their eyes on the NBA ASAP. They will choose schools that compete in a power 6 conference, but where they don't have to compete for playing time.

What is the circus from two years ago that you're talking about?
