Loved Trent. However, I don't think he had high-end athleticism for a basketball player.

Loved Trent. However, I don't think he had high-end athleticism for a basketball player.
Very quick hands and feet and great lateral movement. And deceptively long even though he wasn't the biggest even for his position.

Not a guy who's gonna drive the lane and dunk on you, but I don't think that's DGL either.

I see in DGL a slippery little playmaker and bucket getter who is a hassle to guard and plays with attitude. That's your Trent Frazier Starter Kit.

So catch me up. I remember reading multiple posts here that Dra wasn’t that good. So have those posters come around now that Dra is an Illini? I think that’s how it works.

Welcome aboard Dra. Looking forward to seeing you develop your game clad in orange and blue. I N I

I mean, all power five scholarship basketball players are going to be athletic. However, as others have noted, he wasn't going to jump over everyone and dunk. When I think high end, I'm thinking Russell westbrook, Derrick rose, ja, etc.
The point is, DGL is more of a Frazier than a Nunn, who was an explosive leaper in that way, and was long and muscular even as a recruit even if he wasn't the tallest.

Nunn was a more simple run-and-jump straight line player at that point is his development though. He did not have DGL's wiggle or feel for ballhandling in traffic.

Boom indeed! +1 for the proper use of the Denzel Training Day gif.

Speaking of which, I am friends with some Purdue alums and I was telling them that there were some rumors/rumblings that Lawhorn may commit sometime soon to Illinois. They laughed it off and downplayed it by making all sorts of excuses of "them being better off without him and he's not worth the hassle blah blah yada yada yada"

I of course was looking at them like this during my Facetime call...

Anyways, I'm am very thrilled to have this young man join the Fighting Illini and I think he's going to be a good one!

Exactly. The similarities in body type and abilities are all there. He just needs to unlock that inner dog that Trent had.

With this type of talent on the squad, and with Underwood at the helm ---- we should be nearing the point of Sweet Sixteen for 3-4 years in a row (ala Duke, Kansas, North Carolina).

Anyone know why he decommitted from Purdont?
I heard it was the potential dilemma of having to eat breakfast at Triple XXX every morning before practice but don't quote me on that.

Love Gibbs-Lawhorn's mix and match skill set. Love the cover he'll provide if Skyy bolts. Love that he accepted the challenge.

Our recruiting is flippin' rolling and I'm loving it.
Hoping not quite that soon!

Awesome, two good players for the 2023 class when at one point it was looking like a blank slate at one point. Welcome aboard, Dra!
Don't forget we have Perrin lined up for next year as well. Even if he comes in at the semester, I doubt that he plays until next fall, a la dangerous Dainja. So we have two bigs and a combo guard loading us up next year. Maybe a transfer wing?

As far a Dra goes, I've had my reservations (smallish size, slight build, struggled to shoot well this summer, weak on D) but if Coach wants him I'm all for him as well. He'll have to prove it in practice to make the court.
Rating downturn due to meh summer, but that might be due to a gaggle of ball hogs on his AAU team.
