Ahhhh you date yourself mi amigo I remember that team and the game in question they were a year apart in class but the same age. Aguirre allegedly would not consider the illini because he did not want to play with Eddie anymore did not want to play in his shadow. I do not think he would Mark was a bad dude with unlimited range just as Eddie was. They would have coexisted well at UI in my opinion
The Westinghouse assistant did not want them at the same college. His name escapes me right now. Edit: Roy Condotti

EJ was good, but no way Aguirre plays in his shadow.

Aguirre was an awesome college player, arguably even better than Eddie. Eddie was, by far, the better pro.

"By far" is pretty debatable. I love EJ, but his 17 years/19.2k career pts/16.0 PPG is not "far" better than Aquirre's 14/18.5k/20.0 PPG.

Aquirre was a 3-time all-star and won 2 World Championships, EJ did neither of those things...but did win a 6th Man of the Year award. Neither was known as a great defender by any means.

Anyone know who the new player was sitting on the bench and in the team huddles last night? He was in street clothes sitting by Goode on the bench.

Aguirre turned pro after three years so they were both in the 1981 draft. EJ was the 29th player chosen. Aguirre was the first pick. btw, Isiah Thomas was picked 2nd. Illinois hoops were good back then.

Aguirre was the better high school, college, and NBA player and it was not really close. He was probably better than anyone we have ever recruited except maybe a guard from Granite City.

That was a bad term, share the point of emphasis on offense maybe is better one, and yes, I remember him wasn't there some bad blood between him and the staff? They would have made a helluva tandem. There was a lot of talent coming out of the public league back then, Teddy Grubs, Terry Cummings, Skip Dillard, Bernard Randolph to name a few and the illini did not get a whiff from any of them.
