Getting a knockdown three point shooter will be at the first of their list
I think a true experienced PG with some size and strength to defend over 210 lbs that can hopefully shoot it. That’s what we needed last season and we didn’t get it. I realize Skyy was supposed to fill that role and I wish he had stayed and adjusted. Epps will be fine and I believe in him but it takes time for most to get stronger like Ayo and Damonte did.
Stronger quick guards have put up big numbers vs us and we can’t stop them. We need someone that can shoot and defend those guys.

Random thought that came to my head: anyone else find it a little weird we have hardly had any visitors at games this year?

Maybe in the name of NIL we could get him some billboards along side another of the state’s favorite players.

A little but not really. In the portal world probably leaving room for at least 2-3 transfers every year and doesn’t leave as much room for HS talent. We’ve been done with 23 since fall and probably a little early to be burning visits on 24s.

I didn’t recognize him at first. Thought I was looking at a mature, 3rd/4th year transfer looking for a bigger stage.

Is his body B1G ready?

He's no Morez, but he'll be fine. Could use some more muscle, but that's what the strength program is for. He'll definitely scrap in the paint.

Not really sure we’ve had one since Harrington

Plummer, Allan Griffin (if his mom wouldn't have pushed him out he could have been great for us), Aaron Jordan, Grandison, Coleman Lands had a weird career, but he was a shooter, Trent Meacham, Jamar Smith (another what could have been), Rich McBride was supposed to be a shooter.

To me, this years team could have really used Grandison. He played smart defense and was a reliable 3 pt shooter. We definitely could use a Grandison Aaron Jordan type player next year. He doesn't have to be the lead guy, but he'll work hard on defense and will hit you 3s at a 40% or better rate and make their FTs. People may not remember, when Aaron Jordan actually got consistent minutes as a Jr/Sr he shot 43.5% from 3 on 237 attempts.

Dee, DJ Richardson, Jamar Smith, JCL, AJ, Grandison, Plummer. Not to mention Deron, Luther, Griffin, Da'Monte, Trent, Meachem, and more all had one or more really solid years from outside. Heck, we've even had big guys like Mike Tisdale who could shoot well from deep.

I am apprehensive of skill and league considering DGL wasn’t getting quality minutes Monteverde
IMHO, it is much better and more favorable to his development to be where he can play rather than sitting on the bench and getting garbage minutes MA. That said, going against top talent every day in practice also has its plus.

Bottom line is he is not trying to get exposure in order to get a higher level offer. He is an Illini commit and there is some playing time available for him when he gets to C-U. It appears as if he is able to use his talent to gain experience and confidence...and succeeding. Also, it is likely he is happier and in a better frame of mind. But of course I know nothing of that other than the fact he is playing and looks to be playing well. Sure like his quickness, handle, and shooting...but we all know there is no guarantee it will show in the B1G. For sure, he is not a one and done, but if he can learn to love defense, I hope he is around for 4 years.

Podz is shooting it pretty darn good now. Players need opportunity to play and also adjust. I think Skyy could shoot with time been very good at it and he still shot ok at 36 percent. I feel Epps will end up around 40 percent or better too in the next few years.

Alan Griffin transferring will always bother me the most... Pandemic really F'd that up. He was having a really good sophomore season. Would have been incredible for us following year.
