Until we hear something official regarding the NBA draft and the transfer pool, this should be our initial roster heading into 2023-24 (with one open spot). The extra Covid year applied, based upon eligibility. Should be enough for a Top 4 BIG TEN finish!

I believe that Ty Rodgers is closer to 6'4".

yep. 50/50

I have no doubt Hawk can get into the first round (back half) if he has a gangbuster season and resolves his consistency issues. Whether that's enough? No clue. But, obviously, sure hope so. He could be a flippin' killer next season. On a side note, am no longer thinking he'll seriously contemplate transferring. Underwood & Hawkins seem simpatico.

It’d have to be a gangbuster season. Even Draymond Green, widely known as a “does the little things” type of player, averaged 16/10 his senior year and that earned him the 35th overall pick [1]. Hawk isn’t close to most of Draymond’s individual stat categories [2].

I think we’d all love to see Hawk make it, but I don’t see how it’d be this year. I hope me proves me wrong!

If Hawk is back, will really be in great shape. A year of experience for RJ, Dain, Jayden, Ty, and Sencire is huge. Luke has surprised me with his defense. We trade two guys with a lot of experience for a year of experience for five guys. Like the outlook for the future.

Green is a great player, but he isn't 6' 10+". Hawkins offers a ton on the defensive end (and that part is ready to go now). But, to your point, probly shoulda said "flippin' gangbuster."

Agreed. I think Hansberry is gonna be good too. Looking forward to seeing who our portal adds are. We offer a pretty darn compelling package.

The desert
Rumor is he'll go to the combine to get feedback, then decide for sure.
He's a really interesting case since he has all the tools and just needs to find that consistency. I could see him having enough upside that he could leave now but I could also see him being told he needs another year.

As you look at this, A GLARING need is a true point guard that controls the action and plays stout defense. DGL is not it (and isn't 6'3" either!)

Also a developmental center that can be a force by the end of the year/ beginning the second year. A modern 6'11" -7"0" player that can run, block shots and shoot from more than 5 feet.

Of course everybody wants those, but we are set everywhere else if all key players return

Like to see Ty in the PG position. Great size and defense for the position if he has even a mid range shot. Really not sure if anyone can shoot from mid range as they don’t take that shot very frequently and assume that’s a coaching philosophy based on stats. Just know our opponents have read a different book and we have been killed by it by PSU and others. Ayo used that shot a lot and was effective with it. Effective against a shot blocking team where layups are highly contested.
Also wonder if there is further development by Lieb. Would be great if he was usable for 10-12 mins a game.

I don’t think it would be great if Lieb has to play 10 to 12 minutes a game. We know what he is and we need someone better than him playing the 5 other than spot minutes. Ty is a fill in PG too. We need shooting too from our ph

I'd love for 0440, Indy, or Lville to chime in here. :) Any updates on the transfer front? And is there ANY reason for hope that TSJ will return if the NIL money is right?

Draymond was the absolute perfect fit for the Warriors. I don't think he fits with any other team in the NBA.
I think it goes the other way. Draymond enables a certain style of offense and defense. Teams don't run it because they don't have a Draymond. i.e. If they had Draymond, he would fit because they could change.

I doubt any of those guys will name names regarding potential pickups, until the players in question are in the portal.
Eh, not looking for specific names. They mentioned a possible big-time transfer as a possibility. I'm more curious if there are some things going on behind the scenes to give us hope that the staff will fill some obvious needs for next year's team (PG, SHOOTERS!!, a big, ...).

#147
This is just ridiculous. Any team would take Draymond. You might just be referring to this year's version, which is older and on the downside of his career.
I agree. I think he is the kind of guy who is willing to fit in (from a basketball perspective) wherever he is playing. He is the consummate "glue guy". He doesn't chase points. He does all the little dirty jobs necessary to win.

That seems sufficiently vague ;)

My 2 cents - he's got two major issues: the obvious one is his 3 point shooting and what that does to his efficiency. The less obvious is his aggressiveness. For contrast, he's gone to the line 66 times in just over 1000 minutes. TSJ 192 times in 928 minutes. He's not challenging defenders much, opting for opportunistic buckets.

I could see Hawkins developing enough to get interest, but I think he has a ways to go on those two things. His base skills are all good --he's got good court awareness, and good passing for a big. He's shown himself to be a solid defender, especially given his current level of strength (which I would expect an NBA team would work on). Physically, he also has great length.

On the college level, he made a nice improvement this year, and he's a difference-maker on the team. He and Dainja have been a surprising combo --was expecting this season we'd be lamenting the loss of Kofi after almost every game, but it's hardly mentioned --think that's a compliment to them both.

Huh? In his prime he was an awesome defender and great table-setter for two of the greatest shooters of all time. His usefulness on any other team during his prime would not have been remotely close. There is a reason teams were being laughed at in the media about potentially extending him an offer for a max contract to pry him away from the Warriors.

Honestly, I'm hoping we don't get too swept up in trying to "win the portal".

My wish list:
Starting caliber floor general/lockdown defender
Pure shooter off the bench
If Hawk leaves, then some variety of big man

I would like to see us get to a position where we only have 2 or 3 new faces who are adjusting to the current team rather than an entire roster who is getting adjusted to each other, if that makes sense.
