As long as he’s a volume scorer and not just a volume shooter. We know what that looks like.
To give the counterargument its due, I think he was looked at as something of an empty calories chucker to go from a four star recruit with a serious offer list who played and scored quite a bit at VT as a frosh-soph to a bad Northern Arizona team via transfer. He's also small, so probably not a ton of defensive versatility.
But 40% 3 point shooting on major volume is no joke, that plays in any league. And whether Shannon comes back or not, our needs are in floor spacing and bucket getting, we're woefully deficient in those areas and have a hole at PG even if we're loaded with long, grindy defenders.
A possible situational lineup of Cone, TSJ, Goode, Melendez and Hawkins is lightyears ahead of anything we had available to us this season in terms of an ability to run offense and stretch defenses. That's a context in which some of the weaknesses of Dainja, Harris or Rodgers don't hurt you nearly as much.
I'm all for looking for even better options and Cone isn't some superstar, but he seems high-major worthy and fills precisely the attributes that are most needed.
