Had a nice game against Illini last year. Seems to be a real up and down player. Had a real nice game in Maui tourney this year — against Creighton I think. But in most of his Pac 12 games I saw him in this year he was very hit or miss. Of course he had a double double against my Beavs.
You may as well have been describing Matt Mayer right now. Except Mayer had more points and fewer assists. And Kriisa is far more obnoxious.

As long as he’s a volume scorer and not just a volume shooter. We know what that looks like.
To give the counterargument its due, I think he was looked at as something of an empty calories chucker to go from a four star recruit with a serious offer list who played and scored quite a bit at VT as a frosh-soph to a bad Northern Arizona team via transfer. He's also small, so probably not a ton of defensive versatility.

But 40% 3 point shooting on major volume is no joke, that plays in any league. And whether Shannon comes back or not, our needs are in floor spacing and bucket getting, we're woefully deficient in those areas and have a hole at PG even if we're loaded with long, grindy defenders.

A possible situational lineup of Cone, TSJ, Goode, Melendez and Hawkins is lightyears ahead of anything we had available to us this season in terms of an ability to run offense and stretch defenses. That's a context in which some of the weaknesses of Dainja, Harris or Rodgers don't hurt you nearly as much.

I'm all for looking for even better options and Cone isn't some superstar, but he seems high-major worthy and fills precisely the attributes that are most needed.

First team member of the "All Name Team", Puff Johnson, has entered the portal along with the entire rest of the UNC bench.

If I remember correctly he lit up Plummer in the first half of that game, then Trent guarded him in the second half and he didn't do anything

I watch my fair share of UNC hoops, and that's a hard pass. He's not a particularly good shooter, and he really doesn't do anything well. Kinda living off his brother's good name/game.
Color me unimpressed with his play...........

Any updates on how the conversations with current players is going? Sorry if this is the wrong thread
With the Illini’s issues this past season as well as with the portal, Brad’s got to strongly re-recruit each of his players. I’m just wondering that if all these rumors about him looking elsewhere are out there in the Twitterverse, how does he honestly do this? Probably a very fine line to touch on, especially with players who are almost out the door already…

Well I don’t envy their job, but I would just lean towards really working hard to get everyone back possible. Unless they REALLY don’t fit your future or scheme (I mean they should, you recruited them in the first place).

Then say they need an answer by like April 15th or something, so that you know which roles you have to fill.

All while also sending out feelers and interest to players already in the portal all of which will be public knowledge.

Yeah I don’t envy their jobs

Not an insider at all but I do have a friend that is close with Trey's family. He wants him to go to scUM & I'm of course pushing the Orange & Blue so we go back & forth quite a bit. Here's what I know: Trey likes the Illini and is very close with Ty Rodgers but sounds like there may be some question marks with BU. The Howard situation may push him away from Michigan but IU & UNC are other players in this recruitment. Kid can play & would be a big-time get for the Illini.

I think I saw on Jake Weingarten's twitter page that we are at 800 names in the transfer portal. Of course can't find the tweet now.
I feel bad for highschool kids.

Are you able to elaborate on what you mean by “question marks”? I understand if you can’t.

Many of the transfers are learning that it does indeed hurt to try. From the NCAA site: In 2022, ~37% of FBS and ~32% of Div I basketball entries into the portal end up without a home or scholarship (Transfers from Div I to Div II or Div III show up in the without a new home category.)
