I think we all have a pretty good idea of who Illinois is targeting both players currently in portal and ones that aren't ;)
Is this the royal "we" (Loyalty community) or the insiders "we"? If you can't name ANY names (even the ones already in the portal), what's your confidence level in landing them?

Taran Armstrong is the guy I think people should want. Very talented player that was getting NBA looks last year but might not have been in the best situation. Very tall guard that can score, pass, rebound.

ehhh, he's tall, but doesn't look terribly athletic, and doesn't look to be much of a shooter. He's 30% from 3 and 65% on FTs. He'd be pretty far down on my PG wishlist.

I think in the new world of recruiting, teams are simply going to have to try to get the best players they can & let the chips fall where they may. Maintaining a “brand” may end up the most important thing, because you may have to rebuild on the fly often.
The ideal addition right now for any team my turn out to be a kid like Epps. He will have burned his transfer, have 3 years of remaining eligibility, & have quite a bit of potential for improvement.
Dain didn’t look very happy on the bench at the end of the season, but part of the reason he’s still here might be because the alternative is sitting for another year.
Guys like that may be the only way to truly “build” continuity.
Winning also helps.

As others have pointed out, there have been some examples of our players receiving endorsement deals. But your point stands, IMO. It's just a way to funnel money to players. Very little to do with marketing.

If it were a marketing decision, the better move would be to use former Illini greats as spokespeople. Their positive sentiment has already been solidified with the community. Any of the 05 guys, Ayo, Kofi, even Giorgi would make better business sense (depending on the audience they're targeting) than a current player who may leave by the time fans finally get to know them.

I did think that Connor Serven's deal with a bedding company for being one of cbb's most "well rested" players made sense. And Mayer's Great Clips deal was a logical fit as well.
Mayer should do ads for Icy Hot.

I think eventually the team/individual dynamic that differs between I think a large chunk of the NBA and collegiate fanbases... That'll come home to roost as guys realize that in college, the money is far more influenced by team than individual loyalties. It might take a couple more years of NIL and the portal to become starkly evident but it will. I think it will remain a very different personal brand environment than the League.

And this doesn't hurt. Stacking banners and engagement from guys that are gone to the pros is huge IMO. I think Brad's excelled at managing that.

I was very surprised Jayden left since he was averaging 30 mpg till his concussion (last 3 games)

Assuming there are no more transfer outs and TSJ, MM and CH go NBA

We have a good core of 8 and I would add underclassmen transfers not senior transfers, or late HS commits, maybe someone from Europe. That would give us 12 players on scholarship with one for mid season transfer.

Guard - Sencire Soph, DGS FR, Nico FR -- add one
SF - Luke, RJ - add one
PF - Amani, Ty - add one
C- Dain -- add one

Of course if CH stays one more year he can play PF and backup Dain at C so that would be great as well.

I think RJ leaves and one of CH or TSJ returns.

So it is okay to cheat as long as you don't get caught?
In the world of college athletics and paying the athletes a fraction of the value they provide their institution..... yes. Most of what Wade did could easily be done above board with NIL now

I don't know what opportunities are out there, but I would certainly be interested in another HS player if there's a good one available.
