Gotcha. So what has changed now that makes him consider us? Skyy being gone where MSU he would have tough competition for a starting role? Or NIL bid is higher?
Not sure if he'd actually consider Illinois, but Daddy Brad would likely reach out to gauge his interest. That said, Fears hasn't announced he's asking out of his NLI. So this could be a nothingburger.

I get it, but as children we can be blindly passionate about our favorite teams and pretend we are our favorite players taking the game winning shot in the National Championship game.

As a business decision in today's NCAA, most people would put that passion behind them and choose the best option to further their career and make the most of any opportunities they have to cash in on their ability.

How much would leave on the table to play for your favorite team?
Every one of these guys reach a point in their life/development where basketball stops being a game/hobby and starts being their job/responsibility. It just starts earlier than it used to.

If we are all Tyler Underwood, I need to talk to Daddy about increasing my allowance.
I asked dad. He said, and I quote "Yer allowance is to continue breathing if ya minds yer manners, does yer chores, and don't post no more nonsense." Well, actually, he said a bit more than that, including something about the type of people who try and get free handouts ending up on bulletin boards, but given the language, Dan would have to ban me for posting it.

It makes 0 sense to me. RayJ looks like a good player but he took 547 shots last year. Shannon was our top guy with 360. 547 is an insane number of shots. That tells me Toledo and RayJ specficially are chuckers. He's not getting even close to that many shots here, so his production will definitely come down.

The MAC is not a good conference. They're a middle tier mid-major. He's only played 1 P6 team each of the last 2 years. He scored 13 against Michigan this year, but it took him 19 shots and 2 FTs to do it. Did have 8 assists though. To me, Dennis looks like he has the goods, but you don't really know how he will fare against top 50 competition night in and night out. You just assume it will be good.

With Tyger, he has been at UCLA 4 years, been to a Final 4, won a conference title, all as the teams lead PG. He's a 3 time All Pac 12 first team player. His 3pt % and FT% are higher than Dennis, he's excelled while not necessarily being the go to guy. He has defended top level PGs. To me, I don't think it's even close.

It’s not.
