It’s sad we can’t recruit certain kids because we don’t have enough money to give them, even though we have roster needs and a fit for them.
We couldn't recruit kids previously because we couldn't afford them, either. Now it's just out in the open which means we have more money to throw around. This is better for us and for the athletes.

I feel like I’m out of the loop, but why would Tyger want to leave UCLA? I can’t imagine UCLA doesn’t have NIL money to spend.
UCLA looks like they are moving on, as they have some key pieces moving on in Jacquez and Singleton, Bona, Bailey, and Clark could potentially leave, and they have a Freshman point guard who they probably want to give a much bigger role. Also looks like they are bringing in a top 5 draft pick international big next year.

I’m telling you all that there have been conversations … I have known Tyger since he was a freshman in HS … It’s not a done deal by any means but to say it’s a pipe dream is just not true …

TA got him to go to freakin Depaul … You don’t think he could get him to come here ? Come on guys …

If we end up with Domask, Harmon, RayJ and TSJ, that will be the leading scorer from four different D1 programs that won 20, 23, 27 and 28 games last year, respectively.

We had no one who'd ever led a college team in scoring on last year's team. I remember BU mentioning that in a preseason interview.
I am totally fine with a strategy of "recruit guys who put the ball in the bucket a lot."

This pipe dream has made its way to the UCLA message boards where they’re presuming Tyger will end up either at Illinois or Oregon… and they’re desperately hoping, of the two, that it’s Illinois.
b/c they hate their former PAC-10 foe or because they want to curb-stomp a traitor in conference play?

Agreed but we desperately need a veteran PG who can run the offense and create plays for his teammates. We were lacking that last year. They were hoping Skyy would develop into that from the get go but he never did. Relying on a freshman to run the offense was a big risk to take and it backfired.

A coyote was spotted waiting patiently outside the State Farm Center today. What does it mean? What does it mean?

Are we pursuing someone from the UTSA Road Runners? Are we snagging a point guard from the Cal San Bernardino Yotes? Is it Jeff Van Gundy’s spirit animal?

This must mean something!!!

But they were champions! ... LOL Yeah I guess the basics only took them so far; it took some razzle-dazzle to ultimately put them over the top:

Yeah that razzle dazzle play that won them the championship was the same play they ran in practice where Bud Kilmer said, “stick to the basics.” LOL

He follows Harmon on IG, but not Domask. But agree...Peculiar he'd post about Domask for sure
Ah you’re right, good call. Had trouble tracking down Harmon’s handle on the follow list for some reason.

The current talent acquisition environment is WAY WAY WAY more advantageous to Illinois than the one we left behind.

Kentucky succeeds in any environment. Oregon State, Southern Illinois, y'know, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, there are layers and layers still stuck below.

Illinois is like the paradigmatic winner of the NIL world because of our ability to do small dollar fundraising from our Game of Thrones Ice Zombie Army of basketball recruiting obsessed internet weirdos.
Agreed and I’ll also add we arguably have more “untapped” NIL opportunities than an Iowa or Wisconsin or MSU. Illinois has a massive alumni base, a huge state population and a lot of people who currently give millions to U of I but maybe not to the DIA. Our athletic war chest punches slightly below its weight compared to the endowment overall compared to our peers, and an optimistic take is that means there’s room to grow if we can keep stacking wins!

All conjecture, but I’d wager that our program’s NIL would have been astounding circa 2005 if that had been around … yes, I know, the 2005 team itself was simply so different than today’s squads, but my point is I’ve witnessed a relatively huge Illini fan base swell to gigantic proportions more than once when we REALLY have things rollin’.

In this hypothetical future we'd have a lot of lineups out there with Dennis, Shannon and Domask (all very high usage players used to the offense running through their hands) where a lot of individual plays are built around a Dainja post-up. A very different conundrum!
While Dainja is the Illini's best post-up player he is not a good enough passer to run the offense through him. For example HD is notably better at passing out of the post. HD seems like a doubtful get but Hansberry could well fill the bill as a low post option that the offense can rotate through.

Like both a ton but RayJ by a tiny bit
So what was it about RayJ that he planned returning to Toledo after withdrawing from the draft process? Was that actually ever said? Speculation? Change his mind?
