Height I get … It’s the first thing everyone has always said …

It’s not as big of a deal to Brad because of how big we are at every other position … Every guy on the floor with him would be 6’7 or taller and long … And he grades out as a decent defender … Better than Epps …

Efficiency from the floor is also understandable … But we need him to do 2 things … Set the table and make layups and floaters … He’s elite at both of those things … And he’s better at setting the table than RayJ … IMO … We’ve got alphas … We need a leader of the pack who’s more of a CEO …
Being big at every position but one allowed teams last year to expose our one guy without size. I’m still having nightmares of our smaller guards being abused by good switching offenses.

(Not saying I don’t like Tyger)

And it’s a fair argument … I just think the pros outweigh the cons …

And if we’re being exploited by having him out there … Put Harmon in and problem solved 🤷🏻‍♂️

If Tyger were to come here would Sencire guard him in practice, or would that cause some PTSD?

I would be happy with either RayJ or Tyger, but I agree with Indy that Tyger would fit a need as a distributor more than RayJ especially if TSJ comes back.

Tyger is used to not being the main option especially playing with Juzang and Jaquez and thrived in that role. RayJ is bigger and a better scorer but he has been the main scoring option the past 2-3 seasons. Plus Tyger has made big plays on the biggest stage, you know he is ready for any moment while RayJ still has never played in the NCAA tourney.

I'd be happy with either, but Tyger would have this offense humming.

Can I ask why you prefer RayJ over Tyger ? They’re both elite but just curious why you have RayJ over him ?
It makes 0 sense to me. RayJ looks like a good player but he took 547 shots last year. Shannon was our top guy with 360. 547 is an insane number of shots. That tells me Toledo and RayJ specficially are chuckers. He's not getting even close to that many shots here, so his production will definitely come down.

The MAC is not a good conference. They're a middle tier mid-major. He's only played 1 P6 team each of the last 2 years. He scored 13 against Michigan this year, but it took him 19 shots and 2 FTs to do it. Did have 8 assists though. To me, Dennis looks like he has the goods, but you don't really know how he will fare against top 50 competition night in and night out. You just assume it will be good.

With Tyger, he has been at UCLA 4 years, been to a Final 4, won a conference title, all as the teams lead PG. He's a 3 time All Pac 12 first team player. His 3pt % and FT% are higher than Dennis, he's excelled while not necessarily being the go to guy. He has defended top level PGs. To me, I don't think it's even close.

Defense is important but what separates Tyger as an asset is that he's an elite facilitator for others on offense who has been battle tested extensively in major conferences. A point guard in the old school meaning of the term. A floor general.

RayJ is a very gifted dribble drive guy and a willing passer so he creates a lot of situations where everybody can eat and it was a feast at the mid-major level.

Campbell's been cracking open the locks of the Dana Altman's and Tommy Lloyd's of the world with NBA guys who are way longer and more athletic than he is for years. Players like that have become exceedingly rare in college basketball.

UCLA has lost their mind if they refuse to match an offer.

He made 48.4% of his 547 shots. Tyger made 37.8% of his 452 shots. Different conferences. RayJ would probably shoot worse with Tyger's schedule, Tyger would probably shoot better with RayJ's schedule. You say that makes RayJ a chucker. I say it makes him a very good player, and if he ends up at Illinois we should be very happy. RayJ also averaged 5.8 assists to go along with those 547 shots. I don't know many chuckers with that sort of assist number, to go along with very few turnovers.

Calipari is a mediocre basketball coach in the actual coaching basketball sense... and he wouldn't get the same level of recruits at Illinois that he snags at Kentucky.
I mean I would take Derrick Rose over Skyy Clark. Might not be his Kentucky level recruiting, but he was still drawing top talent when at Memphis. And he'd be a much better recruiter than Underwood because of his track record.

I hope when this all shakes out that we have multiple good shooters. I saw more bricks and air balls last year than I've ever seen in my 50 years of following Illini basketball. I'm hopeful the latest additions will be an improvement, but wonder what their percentages will be against big ten defenses.

Sometimes it’s better to keep things off the books … This is one of those situations …

Once he’s in the portal … He better be ready to leave … Mick don’t play like that …

With Tyger, could it be that he’s fulfilling his NIL duties before officially announcing he’s leaving? In other words, could he have a contract that runs through the end of April, but he only gets paid if he’s part of the UCLA program?
