It’s not MCM yet, but more from the original poster who sees himself as an “aspiring scout” on why he’s so high on Amani’s pro prospects.
If I was a clever and cutthroat Iowa fan, this is the exactly the kind of head game hype I'd inject while next year's roster is in flux and getting attention.

Sure, Amani has talent and measurables. But this is a fringe opinion. It's not helpful, and Ant is right about opportunity in 23-24. Amani would need to learn the college game and make huge leaps with only the practice floor available to him. Then, to get starters minutes, he'd need to surpass his elders in performance and reliability by a significant degree and then do better than hold his own against the cluster of superior 5s in the B1G, because our roster would inevitably match him against them.

I'm not saying this is impossible, but holy crap what an ask. Let the kid focus on getting coached to reasonable goals.

He’s gonna learn a lot in practice. Chet has a keen eye for dawgs. I think he’ll hold his own.

I agree with this. I called out earlier that Underwood has only ever played an 8-9 man rotation. Looking a little closer he also only give 2 bigs more than 10 mpg. So this season we have 4 bigs, which is very rare for us to even have on the roster with Dainja, Hawkins, Guerrier, and Hansberry. I'm willing to bet 3 of these guys get 10 mpg+ but I don't think all 4 will. So who is left out Guerrier or Hansberry?
I would also guess that 3 of those 4 get 10 mpg. And unless there are injuries, Amani is probably fourth in the group in mpg. Something like Hawk 30, Dainja 20+ Guerrier 20+ and Amani <10.

Duke, Kentucky, UNC regularly have top 20 players not getting a lot of minutes. Us having a top 60 guy not getting a lot shouldn't be a big deal.

I think this year will be awesome for him in terms of development and challenge in practice without being thrown to the wolves in games.

If his post defense is up to D1 standards before spring, then the world's his oyster.

Realistically, I'd be happy with him praise from coaches in practice and not getting exposed in what minutes he grabs. He's got a solid future and it'd be nice to let him stick to a trajectory without getting discouraged.

I love Hansberry's game. Think he has a legit chance to make The League. But definitely not as a 5. What the hell?
Agree. He is listed at 6'8" which means in real life when they measure him he is likely 6'7".
The analyst guy needs to keep his day job.

Except for the major concern that college basketball has changed. The free transfer rule has led to a lot of guys saying my Fr year didn't go like I wanted, I'm gone.

This is again where I think recent recruiting has been a bit puzzling. Why bring in Guerrier? He's not exactly a defensive stalwart. He's not a shot blocker. He's not a low post guy. Kind of an average rebounder, not a good FT shooter. I thought we were looking for a straight up 5. Someone that if Dainja is out of the game could stop Hunter Dickinson from getting 31 and 16 on us. Jesse Edwards made sense, Payton Sparks was interesting. I could have lived with Aziz Bandaogo or Shawn Phillips. But with Coleman, Hansberry, and really Rodgers I thought we had the 4 covered. So was a little shocked that Guerrier was the guy.

So I hope the staff feels confident that Hansberry is the type of guy that isn't going to get upset with minimal PT as a Fr and leave. Conversely, if they intend to give Hansberry the minutes and Guerrier is the guy that draws the short straw in terms of minutes, why bring him in? Especially when we are now without a scholarship and really still need another PG.

The tricky part about recruiting is the recruits have to want you back.

Is there excitement? If so, I missed it. I do think there is interest in a combo guard that picked KU over the likes of Bama, Arkansas, and UConn.
Ok but what exactly is this addition supposed to do for us? We already have a freshman Combo Guard in DGL. I get adding depth/competition but what we need is a veteran PG and we’re out of space. If he was a pure PG I could get behind it but he’s not and all anyone has been saying on this board for the past few weeks is how they don’t want to turn the keys of PG duties over to a freshman.
