He will be Top 150 kid.
He just finished his junior year in high school.
He is 6'11", can dribble and pass the basketball, and is a better shooter now than most of our team.
Better than taking some more European project guys who never play instead.

Different times honestly. There's less reason to take a project in the portal age when he takes up a scholarship vs letting them prove it at a lower level school then potentially recruiting them as a transfer. Kaminsky is a major outlier as well.

Kaminsky was far from a blue chip prospect coming out of high school. His first two years as Wisconsin he didn't do anything. Bo Ryan was the perfect coach for him, and I doubt he would have become what he did if he came to Illinois at that time. It sucks to say, especially given the emotion in the way he dominated us, but that's really the truth.
He wasn't even the best recruit on his high school team. Sobelewski who played PG at Northwestern was much more ready for college ball. But whereas Frank only got better at Wisconsin, Sobelewski only fizzled out year after year.
Happ was #173. Leuer was low Top 100 at best.
So your recruiting strategy is to use lower D1 as a minor league and then hope they will come here if they outplay their ranking?
Maybe lets find a balance between good HS recruits who stick around and the portal.

If you have 5 good passers on the floor then the need for a ball dominate PG goes away.
JMO but last year the ball did not move - MM, Jayden, Coleman liked to hold the ball and look for an opening. Even TSJ tended to put his head down and drive to hoop.
Contrast it with year beforewhere DaMonte, Jacob, Trent, RJ, Coleman and Luke were very unselfish and the ball moved very quickly around the perimeter as we tried to find an opening to feed Kofi.
I am hoping that people learned their lesson last year and buy into running the offense.
Marcus Domask had 4 apg last year

Luke has no problem passing
When Coleman does not feel the need to create the offense and can just be part of the offense he is a good passer.
TSJ loves to wait on perimeter (see UCLA game) for the open 3
Dain will draw the double team inside opening up the outside 3
Amari 4 apg in HS - very good for big man

Sencire needs to slow down a little on offense but he can learn to pass

I think this is key. It takes more than ability to be a good player. It also takes opportunity, it takes development, and it takes the right fit. If Kaminsky went to a different school, he could have been used differently, in areas he didn't excel, and he just becomes a mediocre player. On other teams, they could have brought in someone better and he spent his career as a backup. But in the right system, with the right coach, and the right opportunity to play, you obviously saw what could happen. It also takes a lot of commitment from the player. Is he willing to put in the time and effort to improve?
So all that is to say, it's not quite as simple as saying, look that low rated recruit was great, this low rated recruit can also be great. I think if you try to play the game of identifying the exception to the rule, you are going to get burnt more than you win. That said, while others have said you don't need to take a chance on a guy in the portal area. I think the reverse is also true. If he doesn't work out, it is easier to move on now than anytime in the past.

Hmm I wonder who is big a problem? Not mentioning a name but it seems likely to be someone from last seasons roster that is wanting more minutes. I have a guess but will keep it to myself. With no open rides then who would make room for Kerr or would he pay his own way with NIL $$? I would love to add the kid. I really think we would be much better with him or Paul M. It will be interesting to see where they end up.I think everyone thinks they’re worth more than they actually are …
We can afford what he would want … We pay Brad millions to coach the team, get them to gel … Him saying no I don’t want to deal with Kerr isn’t an excuse … We’ve got guys on this current team that are more of a headache than Kerr … Sean didn’t have a problem with him …… My opinion, Brad needs to suck it up and figure it out …
Come Big Ten play … If we have no PG play again … Many important people to this program will NOT be happy …

Being a good passer & being a point guard do not go hand in hand. A point guard has to be able to change speeds, run plays, be a leader, control the pace of the game…. Not someone who refuses to go in a game, not someone who plays hero ball, who can’t guard a back door cut, who quits on the team in December, who can’t dribble…. We have Williams, Moretti & DGL.. if that’s our PG situation this season, we basically don’t have one. Williams might not be eligible, Moretti can’t play, and DGL isn’t the vet that Coleman & TJ were promised. Brad would be making a big big big mistake on not bringing in Kriisa. & to be quite Frank, he isn’t a position to pick and choose or give the cold shoulder on this… he needs to bring him in and leave his feelings at the door. Uh, no. Not even close. Jakstys shoots threes at a high clip and can dribble. Not remotely the same player.

I am sure we have reached out to KK. However there are lot of schools with equal NIL that want him.
Brad believes talent is the #1 factor in winning and is constantly trying to add more. He took Skyy even though he had already signed Jayden and Sencire.
If we don't get KK it will not be for lack of trying but rather KK thought the situation was better somewhere else.
