Predictions for the new thread.

BU is our savior. BU needs to go.
Kriisa is an absolute clubhouse cancer unless he comes to Illinois, then he’s a saint.
We can’t seem to retain young talented PG’s for a variety of reasons.
Oopsie by the staff on Podz, but he was terrible and couldn’t guard in practice.
Sean Miller would be a great Illini coach.
We never really accepted the Williams commitment and we dodged a PR bullet on that one.
We could use a solid PG this season.
Geoff can’t recruit.

Did I miss anything?

Here is my opinion which isnt worth much but I will share anyway. Illinois needs to make a push for one of either Kriisa or Toussant.
It is my belief that Brad will push harder for Toussant and here is why. I believe Brad already feels like, not only will there be competition for
Kriisa, but he will also come with a hefty price tag which we may not be willing or able to pay. Of the two guards, Toussant is the far better defender and Brad is going to value that over the guard who's defense has been suspect. Kriisa has played more minutes per game and has had more assists per game but Toussant made a nice jump last year for West Virginia. Toussant knows the Big Ten and would come at the far cheaper NIL price tag and there would be less teams fighting for his services. They will kick the tires on Kriisa to gauge the interest but I dont see it happeneing in the end.

I personally think Joe T is a better fit for this team

Ty Rodgers will be a terrible point guard, or maybe he’ll be a great point forward.

Illinois is not listed as one of the many teams to have reached out to Toussaint yet. 13 teams have reached out so far including Gonzaga and K State

I'd argue that Bob Huggins single handedly has disintegrated the entire West Virginia program given the mass exodus of everyone. He should've held himself to a higher standard given his position and role. They are going to be cellar dwellars in the Big 12 unless they steal a major coach. It could be a lot worse for us Illini fans. We could be West Virginia right now.

Think I would prefer Toussaint at this point too. Krissa would give us more shooting which we desperately need but sounds like he is a minus defender, stats may be inflated a bit due to system he plays in, sounds like he has a tendency to shoot you out of/lose you games like Mayer can at times, may be our highest earning guy for NIL and there are question marks for him as a teammate. If we knew we were getting a 20 ppg scorer, fine, but I think we would look to him to be the third or fourth option on offense. After all of our chemistry problems not sure I want to put the ball in his hands.

Of course they are only highlight videos but Ty is looking pretty darned good as a PG. At this point I think we need someone who can play up to 20ish minutes in a backup role. Toussaint isn’t the shooter we need but looks to be steady, and a dog on defense. Probably closer to what BU envisioned getting with a healthy Williams, albeit smaller and with only one year left. Between Ty, Toussaint, maybe some spot minutes from Harmon at PG, maybe some spot minutes for Moretti depending on matchups, and our secondary playmakers like Coleman, TJ and Domask I think we can make it work. But I do think we need one more ball handler and Toussaint may not be a home run but I think he’s a solid double.

I don’t buy that we are “desperate” for shooting at all. A healthy Luke G and TSJ with a focused CoHawk is going to be a challenge for any defense we face this year.
Our desperation is having a QB to facilitate those options.

Ty and DGL…your table is ready.

Sadly, if their table is ready, it means that there isn't much of a crowd at the restaurant (no options). It's a wing and a prayer if that's what we go into the season with. The questions WAY outnumber the answers...which is especially bad because it'd be 100% questions and 0% answers. It looks to be an "is what it is" situation and the table will have to be ready because the restaurant is empty.

A season for a team that returns this much production on the wing and on the block(which we'd be removing Ty from) that has to rely on guy with no PG experience and the responsibilities that come with it and a true freshman....quite frankly, it's infuriating. It should have never gotten to this point. It was the number 1 need in the off-season because the poor play at that position was a major factor in our demise.

If this is what we're rolling with...I'm hoping for the best.

Domask is a VG shooter. Better than Hawkins and on par (at least) with Shannon.
Even less desperate than I thought. Dare I say….loaded?

I also keep leaving SMFH out of this PG salad we are tossing. I shouldn’t be. He will provide some quality dressing I think.

I would hope he is better than Shannon. Shannon is a very streaky shooter. If it wasn't for the UCLA game I think he would be looked at as a negative from 3
Unless he does the that crossover to his left at the top of the key. He made that shot EVERY time.

He shot 36% and 38% from three the previous two years. Less attempts and I am very sure better shot selection.
We took a lot of bad threes last year.

that's what the "at least" is about. I was being a bit deferential to Shannon. Hopefully, he's consistently better with his threes this season.

Can I ask why? To be fair, I didn't watch a lot of WVU games so I'm not a fair judge. I remember him being a terrible shooter at Iowa and teams sagging off of him daring him to shoot. And it doesn't look like he's a high assist guy. Didn't rank in the top 350 players last year in assists per game. Looks like he takes care of the ball & has a good assist-to-turnover ratio. Brings toughness & D but just don't see him adding a ton.
