Becoming? I would say we have been Top 5 for a while now.
I think you are overestimating the perception of our program and fanbase. TBH nobody really gives a fck about Illinois basketball outside of its own fanbase right now. You have to be really good and have some a$$holes or huge PITA coach that people know to get a reputation.
We are none of above.

Unfortunately that we think Michigan, Indiana and even Missouri hate us or even think about us on the same level that we hate or think about them is part of what others find annoying.
I get what you’re saying. I really do… a rivalry is not one-sided thing. It isn’t even mutually decided upon. It simply”is”…it’s mutually understood.

A bunch of biased opinions:

* Indiana, I definitely agree. Indiana isn’t Duke…like they like to think they are. Which is sorta like we aren’t Indiana…but we like we like to think we are. (Historical Resume based here)

* Michigan and Ohio State is a long, long deep and dark, running rivalry…obviously, a mostly Football derived rivalry that is the definition of rivalry. It’s one of the best in sports.

*The last 3 years Illinois vs Michigan is more of an upstart rivalry. It can’t compete with the Ohio st. thing. On the other hand if we aren’t getting under their skin just a little…it might be time for them to check their pulse or fire Juan. Lol

*Misery? Yeah we’re not on that level. We’re above it. It’s not by as wide of margin as I’d like though…(They should be so lucky. Lol.)
The Bragging Rights ain’t what it used to be…but it’s not completely on life support.

Also, I’m 79% sure…*ahem…a friend of mine….*cough….told a Miznoz fan to go murder his mother one night. You know, before she has another Miznoz fan.
Does that qualify?

Re: your thought on Illinois/Miznoz

That’s exactly how it is with KU & Miznoz as well. Miznoz fans hate Kansas & think it’s a big rivalry, Kansas fans really don’t see it as any big thing.

Moral of the story: No one cares about Miznoz. Just as God intended.

Jesus. If he's willing to say that to a Miznoz fan, just imagine what he'd be willing to say to another Illini fan.

BU is in the gym with them and he was going after Ray J. Then he hurries to add Williams that same day after missing and for various reasons that fell apart. After thoses misses the rhetoric changed. Ty then may be serviceable but he is not and was not BUs first choice. I don't think it is hating anything to state what clearly happenned. I think Ty is an option as is DGL but I hope we add someone else if we can find a solid PG. They are clearly looking if they contacted Joe T. Its not hating if thats what is going on. Depth is a good thing.
Illinois may have been recruiting Williams but never announced his commitment. I am sure they were aware of injury and eligibility issues. The staff contacts hundreds of players to gauge interest, start the recruiting process. Getting a commitable scholarship offer is a completely different situation. JMO - Williams thought once RayJ committed to Baylor that our "soft" offer had become commitable.

Do we wish we had a Derek Harper / Bruce Douglas / Kiwane Garris / Frank Williams / Deron Williams / Trent Frazier level PG on the roster - heck yes. However we have won plenty of games when we did not. Trust in Brad and his staff.

The well hasn't run completely dry, but the NIL collective probably can't compete for some of the recent additions to the Portal unless they get some substantial and targeted donations.

This would actually be a hilarious thread. What's the craziest things you've said to opposing fans?

I'm just don't understand how we went from all in on a point gaurd RJD, offering him a sweet deal with the keys to the Lamborghini who ended up just stringing us along and going elsewhere. Then we get Williams as a potential backup plan which falls thru to now we are good with what we got. Are we really not going to go after a veteran point gaurd? Doesn't make any sense to me but it's not my decisionto make. I just hope it works out for us this time around.
So the plan was to bring in Harmon, Domask, Guerrier, and RayJ. That would have been 4 super Srs to go with Shannon, and we know Coleman wants to go pro.

That's a lot of experience, but a giant hole in your roster the next year. I would have been much happier had we taken someone like Mike Mitchell Jr instead of one of the wings and told him, you are the backup PG, but will also get some minutes at the 2. We're looking to bring in another guy to start at PG, but he's a 5th year guy and you'll start next season.

So whether he actually starts next year, who knows, that's the gamble the player needs to take. Can you pull something like that off for a guy that can start at other P6 schools? Will bringing in a quality guy make it so RayJ just says no, who knows? But to me, we need more than 1 PG on the roster. We need a young PG that can develop in the system. Had we taken a younger PG, and everything plays out as it did and we miss on RayJ, ok our plan fell apart, but at least we have someone used to playing PG on the roster. We can still scramble to get another guy, but we're not staring at a hole, plus we've got someone with time to master the system.

From what I've gathered, just because the funds are there for player X does not mean those same funds are there for player Y.

I'm just kind of curious where that money goes? Has it already been given or just promises to contribute if the player comes.

I think he’s only going to go after guys he thinks will be better than what we have. Bringing in someone who relatively is the same level of player as Ty or DGL, is an opportunity cost for those two. It has to be a clear upgrade, or you could alienate the guys you are trying to develop.

Brad said I need money for RayJ … They said okay here’s the coins you asked for, now go get RayJ … And Brad missed … Now they’re all ticked … Lol … If someone took your money and promised to deliver something and didn’t … Would you give them money again and if so would you give as much ?

But does that mean we still have the rayj coin to be used for other players?
