Missouri? How exactly? Gates is not that great of a coach. North Carolina and Duke because they are North Carolina and Duke. Rutgers? Miami due to NIL.
Miami was just in the FF. And the year before that the EE. They have a great product to sell.

As far as Gates not being a great coach, when has that ever affected recruiting results? Some people are great at the sales aspect of coaching. Anyone remember Pat Kennedy at DePaul?

You say that yet he won 25 games in his first year at what was a flailing program under Clownzo. Recruits see the wins and he seems like the type of energetic coach that can attract the young guys easily.

His style of play is also something he can use for recruiting purposes.

Virginia style of play is effective and wins games, but not sexy to potential recruits.

Any relation?

Gates is a phenomenal recruiter. Was widely considered the best recruiting assistant in all of college basketball while at FSU. He won the award for Assistant of the year at least once.

Gates was a name thrown around for our opening after Groce, but the thought was that he needed more experience.

Plenty of us have been watching Gates career and wishing we could have had him as an assistant. He's always been known as a great recruiter. We'll see if he can put it together on the sidelines. Nice start at Cleveland and last year was good. Definitely rooting for the next step for him. Although, I don't think FSU is a step up from Missouri, especially with the conference situation and money.

yah I know, what I feel is even more likely is Podz coming back to college and a last minute RayJ xfer to MSU to complete the 4-headed monster of Podz/RayJ/Fears Bros and then go 40-0 winning the Natty winning all 6 NCAA tournament games by an average margin of 64 points

Something something Dee/Deron/Luther something something 3 headed monster
I think a 3 guard or even 4 guard lineup is able to happen if your guards can defend and shoot. Deron and Luther were tall and could defend wings along with PGs. Dee wasn’t as tall but a great defender

Need players who can shoot on the floor at all times

When will Leonard Hamilton retire? Florida State is a logical next program for Gates, considering he spent 8 years there as an assistant before getting the Cleveland State job.

The Seminoles were bad last year. Were mediocre two seasons ago. Are a projected bubble team this year. Would a third consecutive tournament-less season lead to a Hamilton retirement?

Gates got a contract raise and extension last spring, but maybe a Tallahassee gig would be the one to lure him. Another question: would an FSU athletics department sad about their ACC payout be up for paying Gates' buyout?
Gates currently has a P2 job. Florida state and ACC is a step down starting next year.

He will get a much bigger job than FSU ... Depending on how Hubert does at UNC this year ... If UNC comes open then I think he could easily go there ...

I'd watch out for KU or UK as well. Self and Cal won't be there forever. Gates has all the tools. And could be first AA coach at KU.
