His body language in the team photo with the trophy after Braggin’ Rights game was 😬. Just one pic but he looks unhappy as hell.
Not even kidding, I think he just looks like that. I like the kid and want him to stay but I can’t fault him if he rather be a bigger piece on a lesser team. There aren’t many guys that talented that are okay with being a 10 minutes per game player. For now, he’s an Illini and he has my full support.

8 Assists! Must have been getting double teamed a lot. That's a great stat for a big man.
The question that arises from this kind of stat is....how many Mickey D type stars that are 6'9" even pass the ball 8 times in a game let alone to another teammate who subsequently scores? I am waiting to see the first one. Morez appears to be not only talented but pretty darned smart.

I once had a teammate who was a great rebounder, but had it in his head that if he went to the trouble and effort to grab a board, it was his right to shoot it. He shot around 28% for the season with three fellow starters that shot over 45%. His assist total for the season was the same as the head cheerleader's. Nothing like a black hole to suck the fire out of a TEAM.

Seeing the clips of Morez makes me remember the Class A Elite Eight in 1978 and 1979. I was a high school Jr and Sr those years. Some classmates and I from our small school in Southern Illinois made the trip to C-U to watch the tournament. There was a player from New Lenox Providence like no one we had ever seen. Total domination. Although the dunk was illegal in those years, he spent a lot of time above the rim, blocking shots and just dropping the ball though the hoop. And he was just a Fr and So those years. Walter Downing. Clearly a man among boys even as a freshman. If memory serves me, Providence finished third in 1978 after blowing a big lead to eventual champ Nashville in the semi and then totally dominating everyone to win it all in 1979. The Havana Ducks finished second both years which brings back memories of Pork and the Havana Ducks but that is not basketball related.

Edit: Mr. Downing went on to be a MDAA and play for Marquette. Was drafted by the Lakers but I don’t think he ever played for them.

Downing committed to DePaul and played for them as a frosh and soph. Put up lackluster numbers. Then transferred to Marquette. Better stats, but still fairly lackluster (considering how heralded he was a prep). Yet another big who dominated in HS, but fizzled later.

FWLIW, I think Jakstys is gonna be a player for us (albeit, not initially).

Is Morez someone that can win opening tips to start the game? Haven’t had much success since Kofi left.

Back then they just had A and AA tournaments. Downing was a monster in class A but he was blocking the shots of 5'10 guards and 6'3 centers. Disappointing he never really developed in college. Lou took a lot of heat for not landing Chicago area talent like Walter.
