Honestly think it was more when they expanded to 4 classes.

It used to an event. Having 8 teams in the state tournament is better than 4. At the very least they should get rid of super sectionals and go back to an 8 team state finals.
Agreed ... we lived in Peoria when I was young, and my dad said the state tournaments with those great Manuel teams were absolutely electric. I think it is having way too many classes that tanked it.

8 teams means you are playing 3 days in a row or 2 games on the same day. Not a good format for the state championship.

True. Now everybody gets a trophy...... That's me being nice.

Even so, it does appear to have seriously diluted IHSA basketball's appeal to your average Illinoisan, no? I mean, I am 32 and lived most of my childhood in IOWA, and I still grew up with an awareness that Illinois was sort of the "1B" to Indiana as the "1A" as far as states that have a uniquely awesome high school basketball tradition/passion. Now I'd argue your average kid IN ILLINOIS doesn't even think that. It's a really sad loss of a key part of our state's culture.

Its high school basketball, neither one of those is a big deal. Basically everyone is playing some form of AAU or travel and playing 4-5 games in a day is not rare.

If you're really worried about playing 2 games in a day then just go Friday/Saturday/Sunday which is really not difficult.

I disagree i seen Jalen Brunson, jahill okafor, Jabari Parker, Javon Carter, Ayo all in Peoria. love Champaign but it belongs in Peoria
You think it belongs there just because you saw some good players play there in the past? And that trumps the benefits of increasing the brand value for the basketball team you follow enough to post on this message board?

I don't follow that logic, but you do you, I guess.

We'll get an official ... I'm not worried about that ...

I don't think Wes Miller will be coaching at Cincinnati next year ... And they aren't really a contender ... They are LOADED at guard ... They've got a top 75 kid not even playing for them this year ...

Xavier however ... They are one to watch with Magwood ... Sean loves the kid ... And when Sean is really locked in on a kid ... He is tough to beat ...

That being said ... Chester has us sitting in a prime spot ... He's already been on campus and he will be back again ... Brad's gonna have to be aggressive with this one if he wants to close it down ...
Why don’t you think Wes will be in Cincinnati next year? Having a decent season with a tough schedule so far. A couple decent recruits coming in. AD growing impatient?

They used to play 2 games in 1 day.
Sure. They also used to play a playoff football game on a Wednesday and then again on Saturday. Does not make it right. The players and coaches deserve a day to rest and prepare before the biggest game of the season. In the earlier rounds of the playoffs they have days off in between games. There is no reason to play the 2 biggest games of the season the same day.

The 2023 finals drew over 40k for the 3 days. 2022 had big crowds for the semifinals and championship games for 3A and 4A

Because I think he'll be at Louisville ... Once they strike out on their top 5 options ... Which I fully expect to happen ...

But if somehow he doesn't end up there ... I think he could also get the Ohio State job ...

He's going to be pretty sought after this coming carousel ...

If Cronin is not at UCLA, do you see him at a Louisville or OSU?

hmm, pretty hard to imagine O$U taking Cronin with his record at UCLA.

I gotta think they shoot a lot higher than that .

what's wrong with his record at UCLA? Alford didn't really have them humming during his tenure. Cronin has already taken them to a Final Four and 2 Sweet 16s, and a 31 win season.

He's having a down season this year, but looking at his record, if one down season gets you fired, that's pretty rough. Cronin's record clearly shows he is a great coach. If UCLA fired him, I'd hire him the next day if I were Louisville or OSU.
