Chicago, IL
Leaving: 2, maybe 3
Coming in: 4, maybe 5

That look about right to you?
Out of eligibility: Shannon, Guerrier, Domask, Harmon
Probable NBA: Hawkins
And one open scholarship currently.

So 6 open spots

Incoming freshmen: Johnson, Butler, Jakstys

That would leave 3 more. To get to 4-5 means someone's transferring out, which these days is a near-certainty.

I don't know whether I'm talking to this board or BU or whatever, but I just feel like not enough value is being placed on most college centers' laughable inability to guard Dain Dainja.

Dain's not Kofi, he's not as consistent, not as relentless, not as dominant of a rebounder, but in terms of making a cartoonish joke out of bad matchups I'd argue he's even better, and that was my favorite thing about Kofi.

It will be different here. Right? Right? Last year’s prima donna issues are very fresh in the memory.

I think a big difference and this can go to some of our guys that transfer out, when you're promised a certain role or sold on that and then you go out into the portal and add in a guy like a Love and he's taking 20 plus shots a game then some resentment is going to settle in (esp if the coach is a hot head).

5 feels like a decent number.

Not saying you can do it every year, but we’ve got a lot of PT and usage leaving, essentially all of it. If you can grab 2 or 3 starters and a couple of bench pieces, that’s a very nice reload.

I worry about chemistry, but continuity is dwindling across college basketball and its becoming less and less worth it to stash half your team and hope they come out as great players after 3 years.

Maybe not probable but I could see Dain starting next year and playing 20-25 minutes a game. Not saying it's what should happen but we will still have a lot of youth at the post next year without a portal transfer.

Dain problem are not that he is old school 5. His problem is low energy, poor shot blocker, not a dominate rebounder and terrible free throw shooter. His post moves looked great last year. Other than running the fast break a few times he has not improved this year. Look at significant improvement we saw in TSJ and Coleman this year.

Dain needs to drop 20 lbs, play with maximum effort when he is on the floor. Learn to hit 60% of his free throws. He needs to learn how to seal his man like Kofi so they can feed him in the low post.

I have never seen Dain this high.

Fears won't be here until 2025. In this scenario, Boswell would be a 4th year player and Jase would have a year under his belt. As for next year, I promise you we are going to have a ton of talent and reload this offseason. Transfers will be looking at Illinois as a top destination in the portal, especially after how good our transfers have been
Disregard. Appears this was already asked up a little.

Any word on the chances of getting Domask another year?

I miss Sencire - if he can get stronger, just have a 30% 3 point shot on moderate amount, and 60 to 65% free throw shooting, he dramatically makes us better next year. Dude is such a game changer out there.
Honestly even if he can just improve his ball handling and ability to finish at the basket he can be a great player without being a shooter.

He is an NBA caliber athlete and fast like legitimately might be faster than TSJ if I remember much from him in the open floor last year.

He has the length and athleticism to be the best perimeter defender in recent memory for the Illini. Like I don't see why he can't be a longer and more athletic version of Aaron Craft though maybe a bit less of the pg skills.
