I like Dain a lot, but I don't think it was a coincidence that he had great games in the tournament against Morehead State and Duquesne. Those are the teams he dominates with his size/speed combination. Even Iowa State, for as good as they are defensively, was an undersized team. And not to say many have had success against Clingan, but that game showed his limitations for a team trying to play at the highest level. I have thought all year that he should have played more. If only for his presence to eliminate the pressure on Coleman who was getting absolutely bodied by guys he never should have been guarding. From the beginning of the year I thought our recruiting failure wasn't losing Dennis, it was not recruiting a defensive center. I would love to have Dain back paired with that type of center, but I don't think he wants to be coming off the bench. I don't blame him.

Thanks to @Indy Illini Fan and @LvilleILL for stoking this thread. Apparently, we're now reaping substantial dividends from the end of a seven-year construction period that completely mitigated program risk and has produced a consistently humming power plant of a team, renewing itself annually with gleaming, heavy-duty, best-in-class, low-emissions machinery.

It's a month or so late but: laissez les bon temps rouler! Not even 48 hours after the season ended and I can't wait for the opening tip-off in November.

Just a suggestion for the NCAA - can we at least somehow delay the start of free agent contract signings until the actual end of the season of the sport in question? I'm getting whiplash here. I can't imagine what its like for a coach.

I know, I know, the NCAA has no actual authority in any player personnel/agent negotiations anymore, and the negotiations are happening throughout the season now, but geez. It almost seems like playing deeper into the tournament might be a detriment to constructing next year's roster.

For the insiders, how common in top recruitments are payments / NIL used for something less than a commitment? Like $X to be the first visit, $X to not visit a rival viewed to be a competitor, $X to enter the portal? Or then we’ll give you $X for a commitment but increase that to $Y if you do it in 5 days without any other visits? Not asking specifically in relation to the referenced MN hotel room, more in general given how much the portal is an unregulated / Wild West space.

A few questions: Do we have enough in the bag for Storr and Boswell? Looking at Maddox list, I'd be surprised if he wanted to be a 6th man..
Also, with Storr, how long does he drag out the NBA dream? Will he go to the combine? Or has he already got enough feedback from scouts that he needs to come back? Also, how does he transfer for a 3rd time without having to sit?

If we somehow landed Storr, Boswell, Maddox and a stretch 4/5 that can shoot and plays hard, the ceiling for next years team is similar to this years team.

All very different players, but I just think you look at DJ Burns, Donovan Clingan and Zach Edey in the Final Four, as well as the success we had with Kofi Cockburn here, and the value of a big fulcrum center just seems really clear to me, and that it has real advantages over "positionless basketball" at the college level, even if those guys aren't cut out for the NBA.

And Dain specifically is a comically gifted back to the basket scorer, and so much more is possible for him than what we've seen so far.

I would have taken the risk of trying to pull that upside out of him.

But I really hope he goes somewhere that believes in him and wants to let him cook, there won't be a more fun player to watch in the country at the very least. And I sure hope it's not in the Big Ten.

Thanks for everything big fella

just to make sure but is it safe to say we're definitely getting a big man, whoever it may be?

I'm in...the intangible stuff can never be overlooked. At 6'6" he provides some size as well. I trust the staff on this one and I like the get.
A slightly better version than Goode before it's all said and done? Or more than slightly?

I see why the staff likes Davis, looking at the highlight tape you can see he’s comfortable spotting up or rolling of screens to shoot the three. Looks like a nice piece.
