Somebody else mentioned recently that the insiders have been pretty silent on kalkbrenner. Is that because there's just nothing there or because there's actually something there? I'm legitimately confused on this one as I am with most things in life.

Hate to see Dain leave but he did not improve much sophomore year. Showed better hustle and energy at end of season which got him more playing time. Still had same weaknesses - inability to score outside of low post, poor hands, not a shot blocker, poor passer, OK for his size but not great rebounder, terrible free throw shooter, unable to guard outside of low post and often low energy.

The team was much better this year than last year so his playing time decreased. If he had been a dominant big man he would have gotten a lot more minutes.

If sees a lot of playing time next year he will have transferred to a much worse program or have improved significantly. Or he is just negotiating for more NIL money and will come back :)

Kalkbrenner would be a massive get. The silence from those in the know keeps me intrigued or maybe I missed it. There are insiders on the Creighton board who says he is going to test the NBA waters, and if he isnt a go, wants to transfer somewhere he can make big $$$. Wonder what University has a big bag of $$ and a need?????

I'm going to have to have a talk with my wife. Her last three favorite Illini were Curbelo, Harris, and Dainja.
I told my wife to stop buying cubs jerseys after the young core that won the world series all flamed out. The bought a Schwarber shirt and he has that terrible knee injury the next day.

Does anyone think, now that the portal is what it is, we'll ever see a more "developmental" player transfer out and back in?

I was thinking about it with Harris. The staff has to love almost everything about him, but he has a few limitations that would probably keep him off the court if we're a top-10 team again. At the same time, it's now just unrealistic to ask a guy to develop on the bench for multiple years.

What are the odds a guy in that situation might look to transfer "down" for a year or two, to develop with a lot of PT, and then try to transfer back as a senior or 5th-year later on? It would be dependent on a mutual fit between player and staff, of course, as well as some trust both ways to keep a future roster spot in mind, but that aside it almost feels like a loan in professional soccer...

I was on an awful streak with #0's transferring until TJ came along. Thankfully, that should be the last time I have to swap out the name on the back

I hope Dain finds a good spot and it wasnt always pretty, but I did love watching his growth this year.

Please get out of the big 10...

We need a big, looking forward to who they target. I'd love to get some real size at the center position.
Agree. Love Dain and don't want to root against him. You also bring up a very important point. We absolutley need to target bigs who look forward. Running down the court looking backwards can often cause one to trip.

LMAO, no kidding! And to even entertain the idea that he'll go portalling, wouldn't a team like Carolina make as much/more sense? They're (finally) losing Bacot. Kalkbrenner would slide into that role pretty easily. Hell, ANY blue blood would be opening up the coffers for him.

Well I search 247 portal and did not see Sencire. I hope he comes back as I love his defense and offensive aggressiveness. Just needs to learn how to finish at the hoop (maybe getting stronger like TSJ) and hit the wide open 3 pointer.

If you play both him and Ty you are getting Iowa State type defense. Problem is you need 5 players who can play great defense. Teams picked on Marcus and Luke. Dain did not help as he had to play drop coverage.

I am excited about Morez and Amani getting playing time. Amani was lone bright spot in UCONN game hitting the wide open 3. Morez appears to be a high motor beast inside.

I hope Luke comes back because we don't have a lot of outside shooting with TSJ, Coleman and Marcus leaving. Depending on who we get in portal Luke could be playing 30 mpg as senior. He works hard on defense and rebounding. He has been so loyal to Illinois - blowing redshirt and coming back in 2022 for last 10 games of season. JMO - I think he loves Brad and Illinois and will come back. He has not entered portal.

DGL was seeing lot more playing time in BTT and NCAA. I think he sees a much bigger role and comes back. Social media posts are encouraging.

Nico I have no idea. He needs to get much stronger. He can do it at Illinois or a G6 school if he wants to play more now.

Bro Daniel ... good topic ... developmental possibilities.

My take ... for undersized 3star players out of high school ... go to mid major schools like in the MWC, MVC or the Atl10. Bulk up, get PT college bball experience then transfer to a Pwr 6 bball university.
