Boswell, Storr, Hill, Maddox, Davis, TBD Big guy ...

In addition to Ty, Rez, DGL, Hansberry, Butler

Redshirt Jakstys and leave a ride open ... Or if Goode stays/Hawkins return  ...

What do we think ???
Where do we stack up defensively with this mix? I don’t know enough about newcomers to say. Definitely seems like plenty of offensive firepower.

So only Ty, DGL, and Hansberry returning from current team? Dainja, Moretti, Harris, and possibly Goode all leaving?

I don't feel good about this, but I guess that's what college basketball has become.
Yep ... Think this is a likely scenario ...
I don't like this. I think we were lucky this year with the mix of returning players improving and the new players contributing, the team chemistry being the positive that it was. This is NOT a reliable method of team building to rely on year after year. Last year's team didn't gel as hoped. Bringing in 10 new players will always be a crapshoot. I sincerely hope it works. But possibly 9-10 NEW PLAYERS???? Wow, that's asking and expecting a lot. I have some reservations about such a severe turnover of personnel and I truly hope that we have more than 3 returnees. Continuity is a thing...

I think A LOT depends on the TBD Big Man and the strengths/weaknesses we would be dealing with. Storr needs to develop a lot more defensively; not even comparable to TJ at the moment.

We’re not getting any of the names mentioned. This is where we go back to 2007.

Well, you have to replace guys one way or another and you can't bring in a class of 10 freshmen. Seems like there's criticism no matter what.

In '22, we brought in 2 freshman blue chip lead guards and they both left within months of each other. Brad gets criticized for not having enough experience on the roster. Then we load up on experience and now Brad's getting criticism since we have to replace all those guys as a result. It's a different sport now; there's no restrictions on guys coming or going. In the words of Moneyball, "Adapt or Die".

It’s not like we’re kicking kicking anyone out and you can’t force a kid to stay. Moretti role will never be more than what it was this year. He can go down a level and play. Just don’t see it with Buck on the offensive end, and it’s still not a forgone conclusion Luke is leaving.

Yeah I don't know about his specific situation. But student visa holders cannot be employed for pay in the US.

Potential loopholes abound, and with the basketball talent that's out there beyond our borders I suspect some clever coaches are about to go looking for them.
Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but I've definitely heard of programs using the summer foreign tours as a loophole to pay foreign players on non-U.S. soil.

Harris didn't play this season so I'm not sure what continuity he is going to have. Moretti barely played. It's not going to be 9-10 transfers every year. Look at the Final Four teams. Purdue is the only team with less than 2 transfers out of their top 6-7 players.
NC State - top 7 players are transfers
Alabama - 5 of the top 7
UConn - 3 of the top 7

And there are so many more teams that build their teams like this. This is the trend in college basketball and football for that matter.

Do you think Luke will graduate and move on outside of college basketball or would he likely go to another program?

Luke knows his path going forward isn't playing basketball, and I was under the impression he'd highly value a master's degree from Gies, so hope that's enough to keep him onboard.

I thought someone had mentioned Luke has a gf who is an Illini athlete unless I read wrong.

I get it, I just don't feel like this being a yearly thing is optimal. I would certainly hope Goode stays, to work on his Masters as well as mentoring Davis for a year. Sencire Harris .... what exactly is the drawback to having a slot on your roster dedicated to a bona fide defensive stopper at the 1-3 positions??? I'm just skeptical of the benefits and possible drawbacks of having only 3 returnees from this years team.
