Yes.

I also thought we'd be a successful team with RJ Melendez and Jayden Epps. I still do.

I'm a sucker for our existing guys, I get it. But Luke Goode isn't Skyy Clark, Dainja isn't Bosmans-Verdonk. These are battle tested seniors to be who are going to be playing their best and most impactful basketball next year as leaders and strong characters. That's where I'd be making my bet.
The least efficient player in CBB?

I'm just goofing about Podz ROY, but he's really good and clearly would have run with the opportunity to play more here.

My point is that Goode was a priority in that moment. He also ate more and more minutes from Guerrier and Harmon as this season went along, and the team improved as he did.

He's really good, the proposed rotations look much, much weaker without him.
I have never heard, and this is the first I’ve ever read, that there was some type of Goode versus Podz situation for a scholarship.

My recollection was that we wanted to find a way to get Skyy. And that Skyy was going to play a role that would conflict with what Podz wanted.

That's right.

Sometimes talented players with somewhat extreme statlines have the ability to develop into a more winning player in the right context.

Knowing that is why I'm excited to have us throw seven figures at the biggest ballhog in CBB

I can't believe Goode would leave. He's in line for a HUGE role next year.

And lets not forget that we let NBA Rookie of the Year Brandin Podziemski leave because we wanted Luke Goode to start. Now we're Creaning him? What are we doing here?

In Gritty's world where everything has to fit his pessimistic worldview that Illinois is screwed, we were gonna finish last in the B1G without RayJ Dennis, and now Podz will be the NBA rookie of the year over Wembanyama just because it would make Illinois look worse.

Fam, just log off sometimes when you get these unbearable hot take urges.

This is my biggest concern. We will be asking two bench sophomores who barely played and a one year junior starter who did not appear to be a team leader to carry on the culture of the program and pass it on to older players coming in from all over.

This has all the earmarks of the 2022-23 season. Hopefully Brad and the staff recruit and coach very differently than they did two years ago.

I honestly don't understand this bit anymore.

I apologize for making a joke about Podz. Yes, Victor Wembanyama will be the rookie of the year.

I'm fairly ignorant...but why would he want to come here after he decommitted from us a few years ago?

meetings are starting this week...so I would not be surprised to see a transfer or two out. Tbd still on the transfers in
How does the recruiting dead period that starts on Thursday affect things? Does the ban on contact apply to portal guys too?

on top of what Lville said, to decommit he must have committed to come here in the first place too

Your default position that Illinois is always going to pick the wrong choice or do the incorrect things has led to the following takes from you the last couple days:

- Dain Dainja is 1st team all B1G caliber (LOL)
- RJ Melendez (9ppg, 30% 3pt) and Jayden Epps (39% fg, 30% 3pt, 9-23 record) would have led us to successful seasons
- Podz was pushed out for Goode (incorrect, he was pushed out *allegedly* because we had a 5* PG in Skyy coming in and Matthew Meyer and TSJ for the other guard spots)
- Goode is somehow a plus defender that was in line for a *huge* role next season compared to this one (incorrect again. He's a great rebounder but routinely abused on defense. You could easily tell other coaches' gameplans were to take it right at him anytime he was in the game)

Hopefully you were just joking about all the above as well!
