I will say that the bolded improved once we stopped switching so much on the perimeter. In our "help as little as possible" defense teams were getting Goode switched onto pg's and then he got roasted. He's an above average help defender and rebounder, and an ok on ball defender as long as it's not a primary ball handler. I don't think he was ever as bad as our scheme made him look at times, but I also don't think he's an amazing defender or anything.

Great point, you know ball.

If Jakstys is playing at all for us next year. he's either too good to keep off the floor, or something went horribly wrong.

I wouldn't encourage Jakstys to redshirt. A redshirt gives him an extra season in 28/29. Who thinks that he will still be here in 5 years? I would take whatever he can give us right now. It might only be in one or two games, but WTH? JMHO
If he is not going to see the court much at all, it is in the player's best interest to redshirt. They are able to capitalize on NIL to an extent, as well as "buy" the additional year of eligibility, which also translates to more NIL money opportunities down the road. The player in the meantime can take advantage of the facilities, improve their game, and set themselves up for a longer period of success. I want the coaches to be honest about that with the players coming in. It builds trust in the program for all future recruits.

While in last year’s recruiting thread, I thought it would be fun to point out the reaction to Damask being a potential portal transfer after it was announced. Maybe this can help some whiners suffering from Loyalty derangement syndrome to regain some perspective on potential recruits BU goes after. The man knows what he’s doing. Trust.

Lmao Mans came with the receipts locked and loaded!

We have 2 starters (Luke when TSJ was out) coming back. Both played ~ 20 mpg. Ty 6 ppg. Luke 6 ppg. If Dain comes back 6 ppg. Brad would be crazy not do everything in his power to bring all 3 back. Remember Kofi entered portal and came back. I doubt we are adding 5 starters from transfer portal this year. I would love to get Storr and Boswell. However NIL competition will be ridiculous for Storr. JMO - I think he gets 7 figures to got Kentucky. Boswell chose AZ and has been steadily improving there.

Hey Illini0440 & DB11, I remembered some of your AJ posts from last year, so I thought I’d dig them up. Is this no longer the case or are we just willing to accept the crazy now?

Not an insider and this is speculation, but my hunch would be that there was hesitation with the mom if we weren’t going to be having Storr as a key feature guy last year (because that would be Shannon), but this year since we’re selling him on the Shannon #1 guy role, it’s less of an issue.

At this point “creaning” has clearly been overused considering people don’t know the difference between being pushed out by Brad and being told you’re not going to play as much as you’d like…

I love that Davis is a solid 3pt shooter and 85 percent from the line. It will be nice to have a solid FT shooter in the line up to close out games. I don't need that stress up 2 or 3 when guys step to the line to close out games anymore.

That sounds like a bit of revisionist history....everything I've heard re: Podz was that he was pushed out
Guess it depends on your point of view. Pushed out because you didn't get playing time assurances? Pushed out because coach continued to recruit guys at your position?
Never heard a version of the story where BU told him he wasn't welcome back to compete for PT. Just that Podz expected to play, and coach wasn't making him any promises.
I hate the idea that a kid this talented got away, but I completely understand why BU let him.

This year has to be the biggest % of production we have ever lost in 1 season:

Shannon
Hawkins
Dainja
Guerrier
Domask
Harmon
Goode (maybe)

That’s 77 points. I can’t recall Illinois ever replacing that much in one season.
I agree that is a ton but on a positive note, Alabama last 57% of their point production last year. Only 3 guys remained from the 2022-2023 team. Lost Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney and Charles Bediako to the draft and had Jaden Bradley transfer to Arizona and Jahvon Quinerly leave for Memphis. All their top transfers this year were mid-major guys and they have had some great production from freshman (mainly Jarin Stevenson). Oats also lost all 3 assistants. They still made the final four this year. It can be done.

We promised Skyy would be a starter. How did that turn out?

Your default position that Illinois is always going to pick the wrong choice or do the incorrect things has led to the following takes from you the last couple days:

- Dain Dainja is 1st team all B1G caliber (LOL)
- RJ Melendez (9ppg, 30% 3pt) and Jayden Epps (39% fg, 30% 3pt, 9-23 record) would have led us to successful seasons
- Podz was pushed out for Goode (incorrect, he was pushed out *allegedly* because we had a 5* PG in Skyy coming in and Matthew Meyer and TSJ for the other guard spots)
- Goode is somehow a plus defender that was in line for a *huge* role next season compared to this one (incorrect again. He's a great rebounder but routinely abused on defense. You could easily tell other coaches' gameplans were to take it right at him anytime he was in the game)

Hopefully you were just joking about all the above as well!
Yikes. I’d hate to see the file on me…

I'd like to point out that Luke got a brutal whistle compared to our other perimeter defenders. And during the post-season he was very effective when we switched more (seemed to do it toward the end of halves) because he rarely blew a switch - he and the other defender always seemed to be on the same page. Very valuable stuff out of him that final stretch of games.
Wish we would have gone with him over Ty and switched all those illegal curl screens on Saturday, let him and our other wings front the ogre when that was their cover. Couldn't have been any worse.
