The talk of Goode leaving brings back a thought I've had about the program "message" and the current state of college basketball. I don't think there is a world where we use the slogan Every Day Guys without valuing what guys like Goode bring. Him, Ty, and even Harris seem to exemplify that. To see two of those three possibly leave is disappointing. If that's the direction then it is what it is...but quit with the slogans that sound good, but mean nothing. I am absolutely not saying "don't go out and bring the best players in". Definitely do that. But value the principles that you say you value.

Now the talk of those guys leaving is just talk at this point so I don't put too much stock in it. Goode was a key member of our season and I think Underwood showed time and time again that he had more trust in him than many others. So hopefully he continues to be someone we can build around, and I think we will see(and probably already have over these past two seasons) that the foundation you build around can be just as important as the big names you bring in. The culture must be maintained. You can have all the talent in the world, but without these type of guys you will continue to fall short.
Who doesn't value what they bring ? It seems like the team culture and the connections between players is part of what made them so good and it sounds like Coach isn't trying to push them out. They played hard every single day but that doesn't mean they have to stay here forever... I hope they do but it's only fair in this new world that they consider their options and do what's best for them

Hopefully Storr doesn't listen to the same handlers that encouraged Tyger Campbell to stay in the draft last year.
He already knows the program well. As someone else noted, the reason why he decommitted was because Chin left. He has seen up-close and bitterly personal, twice this past month, what kind of team BU puts on the floor. Seems a much different situation from TC last year.

That's not a slogan. Its literally developing a successful program instead of just trying to create an individual standalone team. You can have good teams going that route, but it looks more like Kentucky than I'd prefer.
Have we not developed a successful program the last 5 years?

Nobody is creaning Goode my guy, he's got his degree and might explore his options for his last year of CBB (or he might not). How is that incongruous with having "EveryDayGuys"?

Man.....now that we got the second weekend monkey off our back I can already see the same posters coming out saying we aren't winning in *their* preferred way. Will be absolutely unbearable.

For those in the know, are we seeing more, less, or about average the number of transfers out vs. similar size and placed programs? Just curious, thanks.

everyone complaining how we're going about this wrong or how NIL is ruining things, after we've had our most successful season in almost 20 years:

To be clear, as to both Dainja and Goode, I have no doubt that if the staff told them they were starters and central pieces of the puzzle to next year's team and made them an NIL priority in line with that, both guys would stay. Neither is desperate to leave.

And I would speculate that neither guy would really be beating the bushes for top dollar elsewhere either. We could have them at reasonable prices that would impact our ambitions elsewhere in the portal, but not take us out of the running for Storr or whoever.

If they're leaving it's because Brad doesn't want them to be focal points of next year's team. He prefers to max out on the portal.

There are good players in the portal and our staff scouts really well and has a ton of resources to play with. But I would have made a different choice, I think having a lot of continuity supplemented by a targeted big portal scorer or two would have been the stronger path.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I have a lot of faith in BU, and I know he'll fine tune whatever he ends up with over time. We shall see.
From a fan perspective, I feel more invested in a player like Coleman who stays for 4 years, vs 1 and dones like Guerrier or Harmon, who may be great people but I never got to know much about them. Part of the fun as a fan is watching guys grow and develop from skinny freshman to dead-eye veteran, and all the ups and downs along the way. At the end of the day I want to win, but changing out all your stalwarts for hired guns every season weakens that fan/player bond.

To be fair, we built the first three years of that through HS recruiting and player development (all respect to Alfonso Plummer), and the worst of those 5 seasons we screwed up the culture with an excess of new and ill-fitting pieces.

But, the other reality is, at least for as long as bonus Covid years are in the system (DANTE MADDOX), we are seeing that being old and experienced is a major major factor in having success.

It's a balancing act, in a sport where it's hard to predict what is coming around the corner.

BU's mentality seems to be that the best way to be good two years from now is to be good next year. There is wisdom in that.

For those in the know, are we seeing more, less, or about average the number of transfers out vs. similar size and placed programs? Just curious, thanks.
It's too early to have final numbers and others may be more knowledgeable than me, but it feels like slightly fewer guys in the portal, shading younger than last year with fewer 5th years available?

It definitely doesn't seem like a radical increase on what came before, which was the case the last two offseasons.

Seriously NIL is the best thing that has happened to IL basketball. "Black" NIL has always been the case and frankly Illinois wasn't very good at this. This definitely created more parity for teams like IL

I'm going to simultaneously agree with you (that Milwaukee is a great city and sports town)....but also raise you one.

As a lifelong Cub fan I am confident that my Great-Great-Grandchildren will see another one of those.

Maybe you should have shown the Bears. I think that their time is just around the corner.

Not in the "know" by any means, but if it is only 3 role players that transfer out, less than other programs. Some are losing major contributors via portal
