Sarcasm: top 17? I mean, how on earth could anyone not want to be in the TOP SEVENTEEN! So much better than the Top 25. :) Take it as you will, and I bet it will not be taken well. Still .... take it as you will.

Tee hee! I need a MILLION to give my best 'cause it is so very hard to give my best for my 'home state.' You know how it is, right?

But for, say $950,000 I will ALMOST give my best. I mean, I am very coachable, want to bring YOUR squad a Natty, and really, I am not all about me.

Pass. :)

"Also, I am just like Kenny Battle, and Dee Brown and Ayo Dosunmo and, well, all those other guys that needed a MILLION to grease their path. Just how it is, bruh.

Ain't that righ?"

Ugh. Let's roll elsewhere. (My head coach booted a seven-footer from the HS that I coached at, owing to attitude. City school, not a small place. Kinda school that produces, rarely, NBA talent. The kid was not only tall, but really skilled. But ... go to East HS, and ... never heard of him again, unfortunately.)

Culture and character matter more than anything else. But it is SO hard to turn down an athlete with incredible size and skill. Yet.... character matters most. Sigh.

Rankings are BS, of course. Wether for HS kids or later in the portal. I've heard that many, many times here! Plus .. it is actually true. grrrr. Coach's evals mean more.

But ... we've seen evals from coachs fail abyssmally too in the last 2 years. Evaluating is hard (Brad says 'winning is hard'), coaching extremely hard, and SUCCESSFULLY motivating guys -- and not one of them is motivatable like the other one -- is harder still.

So: winning is hard.

Everyone is talking about Avila from Indiana St but I've been super impressed by Conwell. He would be a fantastic addition. Good size and length for a guard, seems like a solid athlete, and he can straight up shoot(smooth lefty stroke).

Kent also would be a pretty interesting depth piece.

Must not have taken many classes in Altgeld Hall. I mean Altberry Hall. I mean Altbunny Hall. Or wait, was it Altbozo Hall? The one with the ... you know ... like bell sounds in it? By the pizza shop place? You know the one, right?

Yeah, that's not the greatest sign. I didn't know he's already played with Marcus Hill, interesting. I think Storr is just manipulating every possible dollar his way and wouldn't trust a commitment before he physically signs. He's screwed us once already.

I know what you are suggesting -- if the evals are somewhat reliable, then not going for the best you can haul in is not a good idea -- but there is plenty of reason to doubt this recruitment. I am very, very nervous about it.

If this one recruitment goes south, we wait for the year after the coming one. That's real talk.
