Exactly. As we saw with Edey and Clingan... inability to defend the post, and attack the post ,against top tier teams with 7' plus talented bigs pretty much sets a ceiling for the team.
You could say that for 348 Div basketball schools. There is only one Edey and one Clingan which is why they are both All Americans,

The thing to me with DD, will be how he handles it away from Brad and FLETCH. Those two put a lot of time and work in, to get his body ready and able for college basketball. I have doubts that will stay the same at Memphis and with Penny. Hated to see him go , hope I'm wrong about this being the beginning of his disappearing act.

One question i have, based on the "maybe a 5" part, is:

If we DON'T get a 5 in the portal, what would the plan be to stop teams with top tier bigs? It seems to me that Amani and Rez (and Coleman if he happens to come back) would be better off guarding 4s if we can help it.

And all 3 of those players listed look pretty good to me, it's nothing against any of them. But it just seems to me that we would really struggle against certain teams, and therefore we'd likely have a certain ceiling for the season, if we don't get a legit 5. Or are we thinking Rez and Amani can cover that role? Honest questions, I'm looking to get educated on what the thought process might be.
It's serious questions like these that keep me coming back to this site. Thank you, More.

Fair enough, that's true. But I guess I'm taking Brad at his word when he's repeatedly said his goal is to win it all, and it just seems like we're bound to run into some all-american bigs along the way in order to do that.

But maybe we're not thinking in terms of a run like that for next year? Or (and this seems more likely to me than already writing off such high goals for next year) maybe there's a plan for how to handle that that I don't know about, and that's what I was hoping to learn.

And I'm not saying we necessarily need our own all-american big to handle that, but I would think you'd need a bit more than a sophomore Amani and a Freshman Rez, or a different stretch 4 like the ones LvilleILL listed earlier (and maybe still more than Coleman, although I agree with Gritty that he would make much more of a difference than most "stretch 4s pushed into guarding top tier 5s"). Nothing against Amani and Rez, I think they will be awesome some day, but just wondering what the plan is for next year as far as this goes.

I guess the most likely answer is we don't know yet, depends on a bazillion factors that haven't played out yet, blah blah. It's the internet though and it's this dead period, so...

Serious question: Does Bronny James entering the NBA Draft actually have a chance of getting selected? I can see a scenario where a team wants to get Lebron, so they throw away a draft pick in the pursuit.
I see him more as UDFA .

Great question. Even though we claim to play positionless basketball, can't we really only do that on the offensive side of the court? When I look at many of the teams that had success in the tournament, they throw a legit 5 out there and we need to be able to defend against. Having a 4 defend and be outmatched against said 5 will eventually have consequences not only in the defensive end but also the offensive, I would think.
