good God, you're a walking rain cloud

there are definitely some concerns with Storr. but the paramount thing with him is being a 1st rounder, if not a lottery pick. I don't think he's dumb and I think Brad and company can refine his game. plus, playing with better players is bound to help. the system fits him like a glove. sure, there's risk. but the reward certainly outweighs it, IMO
I agree the reward outweighs the risk.

I am just observing the huge culture and leadership transplant underway, and noting that having been a challenge for BU & Co. before.

I predict that Ty will be most-improved returning player next season. Just love his game. I expect him to come back next fall with a nice little 10-15 foot jump shot, and excel at small forward.

Shot improvement will be equivalent to Robert Bennett for those who may remember the early 1990's. Should shoot over 50% from the field and average 10-12 ppg and 7 rpg during his Junior season.
Nope. SH Most improved

2019 Illini had a 12-21 record

You realize that the 2019 team lost 6 out of their last 8 games to end the season in February and March right?
Let's say February, fair enough.

From Feb 1 onward:

2019: 6-6
2023: 4-7

We were not a good basketball team at any point in 2019, but you could see we had some pieces developing. 2023 was such a mess.

(I don't even know why we're having this argument tbh)

I am a little curious what role Ty has on the team going forward. Doesn't shoot well enough to be much aside from a good defending/passing/rebounding, undersized 5, and if he can't hit FTs at at least a 60% clip, he won't see time at the end of games.
Lol. You're asking what role he can have and then saying he literally does everything else well except shoot.

Draymond Green was a key piece that won 4 NBA championships and he wasn't a shooter. Shooting is great but it's college basketball. You don't need every player to be a shooter at all times.

He just played a major role on the 2nd best offense in the country. Yeah he didn't shoot and he needs to improve on finishing at the rim but Illinois had a bunch of other guys to take shots.

Perfect set-up for the Portal players, eh?
Which is why Butler reopened his recruitment. Until Illinois starts regularly bringing in top 30 kids (Morez & Fears) freshman playing time will be limited (Hansberry & DGL). Not sure it is my preferred method of building a program, but can't complain about the 23-24 results.

Does 24-25 look like 23-24? or 22-23? Obviously too early to answer that but will be interesting to watch this playout.

Besides Hawkins, Frazier, DaWilliams has Coach underwood had any other guys start and finish at Illinois?

not yet but he should soon. I personally think there's a better chance Marcus is back than Coleman
If Coleman was assured he would no longer have to play under the rim he’d seriously consider coming back. That and the NIL money would have to be significant

Sure. But the 2024 Illini >>>>> 2023 Illini.

Sample size is still pretty small in this portal/NIL era. But I got to imagine over time we're going to see some validity to the idea that stability has some value.
Man can't wait for when we're in the hunt for the B1G title and a top 3 seed with this team (if it comes to fruition) and Gritty still chimes in every time "1st Team All B1G Caliber" Dainja has 20 points in an AAC game or Jase scores 15 against UC-Irvine about how screwed we are for the future.

And a live look in at Gritty as we are on the verge of a stellar portal class.......

I agree with all of these posts.

Yes, I also imagine the value of stability is going to reveal itself over time, though that doesn't necessarily make it the right move for all programs in all situations

Yes, I will be rooting for Dain Dainja at Memphis. I'll choose the path of civility and not comment on how I feel about some of the behavior in the "Former Illini in CBB" thread.

Yes, it will be interesting to watch all of the above play out as we learn in real time how to best navigate modern college basketball.

And yes, we ARE on the verge of a stellar portal class. Coffee is for closers of course, but I repeat what I said about the Storr and Boswell possibility, that's apex predator recruiting.

It's still a big culture shock though!

That 2018-2019 team was playing well in early February. They beat #9 MSU, doesn’t seem crazy that they’d be able to hang with or beat 2023 Illinois team.

I have said all along ... Over signing by 1 is on the table ...

Ty stays ... We oversign by 1 ...

PG - Boswell/Harris
SG - Maddox/DGL
SF - Storr/Hill/Davis
PF - Amos/Rodgers/Goode
C - Morez/Amani/Booth/Jakstys as a redshirt
Love the idea of Boswell, Maddox, and Storr. Don't know if I like Morez starting at center though.
