My question is we know a guy like this isn’t coming to a school like Illinois to come off the bench so does Brad think he’s good enough to start?

He's a beast ... Mature game ... Started his career at Bradley ...
Avila and Kent are HS friends. One of the reasons Kent left Bradley to play with Avila. Kent had a huge progression year this year. Looked weak at Bradley with an inconsiderate shot, and then did less last year at ISU. Really impressed with his growth. Wouldn't be surprised to see him follow Avila.

Which is a testament to Schertz. Extremely gifted offensive mind. He'll have that program humming within the next year or two.

2023 was a lot better than many Illini years. I'm not sure what your point is.

we have two all out portal NIL years to compare for our team. One featured massive turnover. The other didn't. The massive turnover year was a disappointment to everyone from Underwood on down (do you want me to quote all the made for March quotes that appeared in June 2022?). This year was excellent.

Once again. This is a small sample size. So perhaps we can create a bunch of 2023 clones and grab a top 4 seed instead of an 8 seed. Quite frankly, I'm not sure. But lots of people want to ignore 2023 and basically seem to think that it offers no guidance for the future. I guess we'll see.

The point is this: we can either build every offseason with top level transfers outnumbering homegrown players significantly, thus continuing to make the tournament and fielding competitive teams that compete for conference titles, or we can do it your guys' way and prioritize stability and risk having completely uncompetitive teams for entire seasons in the hopes that the guys will take their lumps and will become a greater sum of their parts once they have 3-4 years in the program.

The coaching staff is prioritizing fielding teams they think can compete for championships every single season, they shot for the moon in 2023 with "elite" level transfers but the main issues with that team were our star HS recruits being team cancers and our homegrown players not improving as expected (RJ). Imagine how dogsh*t that team would've been without TSJ or Meyer. And that team still made the tournament comfortably, finished top half of the B1G even with a concerning late season slide.

Have some perspective, if that's a worst case scenario with the upside being seasons like this one, sign me TF up. If you want us to strive for current decade MSU level purgatory because Izzo refuses to acknowledge the current state of CBB in 2024, then so be it, but the staff doesn't and you need to come to terms with that instead of constant dooming.

If this is average, he will be an offense threat and tough to keep on the bench. There didn’t appear to be anyone able to keep in front of him and he scored at all three levels. People basing his offensive skills on his small ft% aren’t realistic. He is quick and very athletic and has reasonable size. Really don’t see any freshman guards better than this.

Getting four starting-worthy players in the portal is great and all, but starting four new guys you went out and bought, starring Storr who is the Mr. Out For The Bag story of the offseason....there are going to be narratives, I'm just saying.

This season wasn't like that because TSJ and Hawkins were the headliners as returnees.
Team @ChiefGritty !!!
