@jamarvelous31 I’m with you on this one.

We can think this was a great season, and that Domask was one of our best players in 20 years while simultaneously thinking a handful of factors kept this team from achieving a B10 and National championship.

One of those was definitely failing to recruit a PG last year. It didn’t have to be RayJ even though that’s who the staff narrowed in on.

RayJ on last years team and we beat anyone but UConn IMO ... Which we probably would have faced them in the natty because we would've been a 1 seed ...

As a certified Outsider, I share this belief. (Even though I am not THAT much of a RayJ fan --- just the missing skillset we could have used a FEW times)

In isolation, I think a quality PG (RayJ or someone else) would have helped us win a few more games. But you never know how another player would have affected team dynamics. This group really seemed to like each other, which IMO made the whole greater than the sum of the parts. Sometimes introducing another personality into the mix can change that.

No way to really know. But I'm 100% for adding a quality PG in the Portal this year, even if Domask is back (which seems quite unlikely).

Domask actually got less efficient from his last year at SIU. He stepped up in level, so that accounts for it. I think expecting a similar outcome for Maddox is reasonable.

I actually think the bolded is harder to accomplish than what we'd be asking Boswell and Storr to do (increase efficiency but maintain their usage). But I have no support to back up that opinion.
Domask's stats are an interesting case. His TS% and eFG% both went down a touch, but his ORtg and offensive win shares/40 went up substantially. The only things I see that could explain this is that his turnover rate decreased, and that our high team offensive rebounding rate meant that missed shots hurt us less. His defensive metrics decreased along with everyone who transferred here, in part because everyone's steal rate decreased.

Interesting to wonder about increasing usage vs efficiency. I can see both sides to the argument, and it probably depends on the reasons why a player's usage or efficiency were low. I'll trust BU on this, but I'm personally biased against low efficiency high usage guys.

And we only won the dang game by 9 ...

Shot an ELITE 5 of 23 from 3 ... 18 turnovers ...

Mark Smith had 21 and Kipper had 16 ... No one else in double figures ...

Man was that first year with Brad ROUGH ...
No arguments about that year being rough, but that DePaul team had two future NBA players on the roster in Paul Reed and Max Strus compared to none for the Illini. I imagine Tim Anderson had something to do with bringing in that level of talent.

I remember watching the game and thinking Strus looked way too talented to be at a school like DePaul.

Basically sounds like “gimme the milly im asking for and i’ll be in Champaign”

If we don’t, somebody else will…eventually.

I’ll take a shot. He wants to be here. Does he want to be part of a great team or be THE part of a good team. Everything I’m hearing is positive. Above 90% and a very real possibility he jumps in with us soon

I know what our insiders in here have said and respect what they know 100%. But Aj Storr to Illinois is unlikely. At this moment in time.
