Carey Booth is nothing like Trayce Jackson Davis. Brandon Garrison would be a closer comparison to TJD.

I'm personally not thrilled with the prospect of a 6'10" guy that took over 60% of his shots from 3 and hit less than 30% of them. A "post player" shooting 39% from the field? Booth looks like a great athlete, but also a 6'10" SG that's not a great shooter.

Give me Max Raynaud or Brandon Garrison. I'm sure Underwood sees Coleman Hawkins when he looks at Booth. If Booth can make a jump like Coleman did from Jr to Sr year, ok. But Coleman made a pretty big jump. That is not common for any player.
I agree, Raynaud or Garrison would be my priority.

Looking back at it I wouldn’t put it past the NCAA selection committee that they intentially put us in the same region as UConn to try and create a roadblock and make it as difficult as possible for the U of I making the Final Four because of the TSJ situation
So sick of this us versus them mentality conspiracy bs, we got a bad draw, it’s the NCAA tournament, you play who you play, you think any UCONN fan is retroactively complaining about their draw?

Then why give us a 3 seed, why not a 4 seed and have UConn knock us out a round earlier?

The sell on Booth is this, among all players who played at least 40% of their minutes and were at least 6'10, Booth took the third most three's per possession.
So you are potentially getting a 6'10 flamethrower who could also be pretty good on defense. After this year I've come to realize that stretch bigs are OP on offense. In a league without defensive three seconds, they can really open up the lane by forcing the big out. Now the problem to fix is obviously that he has to make the shots. 29% from 3 and 63% from the line are not the best indicators. Also his shooting form is not the best. But he's still really young (doesn't turn 19 until July) and after Coleman's shooting improvement this year I am confident that the staff can help him out.

Pretty sure that's Ant Higgs, he came in super overweight/injured IIRC and then left midway through the second semester? Could be wrong tho on the timeline

I did some more research on Anthony Higgs and I found a website that has what happened to him and where he is now and in my earlier post I should have said the player to Trent's right was Anthony Higgs and not the player to Trent's left:

The only other early departure from last year’s team other than Samba Kane, Anthony Higgs will play this coming season at Chipola College — a junior college in Marianna, Fla. Higgs missed the entire 2018-19 season at Illinois with a lingering foot injury amidst other medical concerns.

I seem to remember jokes being made about Anthony Higgs getting overweight as a result of his foot injury and those jokes were based on the physics particle called the Higgs boson, which is supposed to give mass to all matter in the universe.

This 2019 link to the local News-Gazette newspaper website tells what happened to other Illini basketball players as well.

I'm ready for the phrase "with that being said" to go the way of the dodo.
You and I both! Of course 'that was said! I just heard or read you saying it...... Not sure why that phrase has become a thing, it's annoying af. Not a single time was that phrase EVER used where if you left it out completely, no one would misunderstand what you said lol.

I'd prefer Bradshaw or Raynaud. Raynaud gives you more offensively but Bradshaw will be the better defender and has a lottery pick type ceiling.

Bradshaw can play 5 out, shot the ball just as well as booth(far fewer attempts) but looks fine and he would be a phenomenal rim protector.

I find it intriguing —- and probably valid —- how we seem to chase year after year the on-court skill set that caused us serious issues during the prior season. Recent examples include:

1. Swept by Maryland’s slashing wings (in comes Terry Shannon Jr)

2. 0-3 against Penn State’s booty ball (in comes M. Demask)

3. Beat down and winless against the dominant big-bodied Purdue/UConn centers (in comes ???)

It’s insane lol. 5-star, not even 19 for another week or two and was the best guard on the floor with Caleb Love, Jared McCain, Tyrese Procter and Jeremy Roach earlier this year…

Kid can bomb from 3, has shown very impressive passing chops and has a great build for a guard. He’s been inconsistent, yes, but playing next to Caleb Love ain’t easy and again, he’s 18.

Because you cannot make a logical argument we win or lose based on something we didn't have. You cannot say, "if we had __________ the result would've been ___________."
Truly inane line of criticism.

"Its raining outside, if I brought an umbrella into work I'd be dry." Is just as logical as "illinois lost games late due to turnovers. Another experienced ballhandler would've won those games for Illinois".

It sounds like if the weekend breaks right we're getting multiple solid ball handlers so its all good!

I do love that this staff constantly sees the same game we all do and improves so much in season and out.

With all due respect, I agree with your post. With that being said, I can't agree more. Irregardless, you have pointed me towards somethings like an expresso machine this morning. (I also dislike BOOM)

He is skinny but I think he's maybe a bit longer than Coleman and more vertically explosive. So while I think he would get bullied and backed down by more physical interior players he will be able to do a better job contesting those shots and providing rim protection on drives than Coleman did.

Sidenote: with Edey and Clingan gone I don't think any player in college will be nearly as physically imposing.
Clingan is gone? Maybe I am wrong but I didn't think that he declared yet. He is only a sophomore isn't he?

If we don't get Storr, then how about one of Booth or Bradshaw, and one of Reynaud, Wolf, or Garrison?
